Re: Object Programming in Python

Currently I'm writing code on my Windows 10 Pro laptop using IDLE and then transferring the code to a Raspberry Pi to run. For the Pi I've installed some object packages, like RTL_433, pyModbus, etc, from a GIT site or other sources. My code generally works on the Pi, but on the laptop when coding I...

Re: Putting Mysql database file on external hard drive

Great, I actually understand what you have proposed. Now how do I insure that it is mounted before MariaDB starts? The USB stick is defined in the /etc/fstab. Is that sufficient?...RDK

Douglas.....All of the files in the concatenation list in this file (/etc/mysql/my.cnf) , shown below, were either empty or did not contain the directory information # The MariaDB/MySQL tools read configuration files in the following order: # 1. Re: Putting Mysql database file on external hard drive

I realize that this is an old posting, but I have just installed MariaDB on my Pi 3b running Stretch. Before I start any database development I would like to have the data stored/accessed on an external HD or USB stick. With the passage of time and the MariaDB MySQL replacement on Raspbian Stretch, ...

Re: Installing MariaDB on Stretch

OK, correct me if I'm wrong: 1. to create the non- root user with root powers (ie "admin") I have to use the sudo mysql command? and then create user 'admin'@'localhost' identified by 'a good pw'; grant all privileges on *.* to 'admin'@'localhost' with grant option; 2. After that I use the mysql -u ...

Re: Installing MariaDB on Stretch

OK, but when I ran the

Code: Select all

sudo mysql -u root -p
command I tried to use a different user id and PW but that was rejected. When I ran it again with root as the user and used the REAL root password for my box, it worked. I'm not real happy to have it require the REAL root id and password....RDK

Installing MariaDB on Stretch

I set out to install MySQL but I gather that Raspbian is now working with MariaDB and that it is fully compatible with MySQL. Ok no problem as I'm a new user to either. I installed like this: $ sudo apt-get install mariadb-server $ sudo mysql -u me -p Enter password: ERROR 1698 (28000): Access denie...

Object Programming in Python

I'm an old time programmer brought up writing Fortran programs, ie what folks now call Procedural Programming. I've written a few things in Python, but for sure have not used many of the object-oriented features which are available. I'm reading a couple books right now on the subject, but they mostl...

Re: Error when sudo apt-get dist-upgrade of Pi B+

Note: Pi B+ Continuing the saga from my previous posts: I found a Bluetooth dongle and reran these commands: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade The last one took forever (5+ hours), but finished with no errors. However, now when I boot-up, I get this message: failed t...

Re: Error when sudo apt-get dist-upgrade of Pi B+

Yes, I just finished upgrading to Stretch via this reference (https://www.datenreise.de/en/raspberry-pi-raspbian-update-update-jessie-to-stretch/). And, yes, I got basically the same errors from the sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and the sudo apt-get autoremove commands Is there a way to tell it not to l...

Get a new folder in the the PATH

I have installed some programs in /usr/pgms/MyStuff which I would like to run from the command line without first cd-ing the that folder or including the full path on the program command. How to detect if USB controller is hung

I've been reading about folks with issues ( https://raspberrypiandstuff.wordpress.com/2017/08/04/rtl_433-on-a-raspberry-pi-made-bulletproof/ ) where a program stops suddenly with no errors or explanations. The explanation seem to be associated with the USB or USB controller hanging. I've experienced...

Now I would like to look into setting up your system on a different Pi. We have ...

Re: Confusion with /etc/rc.local

Folks......Geez, this was a much simpler idea. My way was way too complicated and, apparently, prone to system issues. I'm now creating a file instead of swapping out the rc.local files and using that file to prevent the Python program from restarting. Thanks again for showing me the error in my way...

tpyo king....OK, I looked at that possibility but am not sure how to implement it. I was searching the web and found this possible answer which ...
