Re: Using a Pi to Log Data in a Magnum Energy System

Guys.....I'm heading back to the USA in about a month and will have local access to the Magnum for experimentation. I have most of the information I need, as posted above. Now looking to "Charge State" and a few other minor items.

If I have any success I will post something here...RDK

Re: Pi's no longer in Windows 10 Network Dispaly

Thanks for your ideas. In my case, the router sees all of the devices, Pi's, PC's, phones, etc.

I'm convinced it is a Windows issue, but, in fact, I have no supporting data, other than the above sentence....RDK

Pi's no longer in Windows 10 Network Dispaly

First, I'm running SAMBA for network file access and sharing from a Raspberry Pi to my network. Historically with Windows 7 and then Windows 10, all of my Pi's (wired or wireless) would show up in the "My Computer" / "Network" display. Made it very easy to get to data being generated by the Pi and o...

Re: Pi B+ Wheezy loses WiFi

....I have found the issue!!!! It was not the Pi dropping the WiFi settings, but rather my router. It was periodically dropping WiFi clients. Replaced the router and all is fine now.....RDK

Re: Pi B+ Wheezy loses WiFi

Found an earlier post which suggested that it might be that the USB devices (all attached directly to the B+: keyboard, mouse, WiFi and memory stick) were asking for more the 600 mA. I tried adding max_usb_current=1 in /boot/config.txt. The only thing I noticed is that, before when the WiFi was not ...

Well, that did not seem to have any effect. My WiFi adapter is "Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter".

Any additional ideas?....RDK

Re: Does SD Card Copier work on Wheezy?

Dougie....YES to rule #1.

I did the sequence you mentioned, but after seeing all of the output and error/warning messages I reverted back to the backup to regroup and rethink the operation. I will try again one of these days.....RDK

Re: Does SD Card Copier work on Wheezy?

gregeric....Thanks for the push and it has been an interesting ride :-). Note, I'm running Wheezy. I followed your instructions, and yes I had to do several sudo apt-get install 's . Below is the ending output, which is where I'm stuck and have no idea what to do next. I tried to install automake, a...

Re: Does SD Card Copier work on Wheezy?

Dougie...Yes, moving to Jessie is in progress, but I have several Wheezy Pi B+'s which "ain't broke so leave them alone", unless I can find a fool-proof (yes, I'm that fool) way to upgrade the Wheezy SD in place. From what I have read, it is a complicated and risky process? Your thoughts??....RDK

Re: Does SD Card Copier work on Wheezy?

Gregeric....Hey, I'd like to try to learn something new. So, note I'm a novice at system related stuff, how does one go about installing the .git file from the GitHub site you referenced? Maybe it's not available in the (now unsupported) Wheezy repositories. Either upgrade to Jessie, or if you must ...

Does SD Card Copier work on Wheezy?

I just read about the new SD Card Copier in the Blog https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/another-update-raspbian/ . I'm running Wheezy and have just completed the Update/Upgrade sequence so I assume I'm fully up-to-date. However, when I go to the startx GUI, I do not see the SD Card Copier on the Deskt...

Thanks for the hint. I have searched for that idea and will add

file and see what happens. Thanks again....RDK

Pi B+ Wheezy loses WiFi

I'm running Wheezy on a Raspberry Pi B+. I have just done the Update and Upgrade sequence. The problem is that after some period it seems to drop the Wi-Fi connection so connecting via Putty is impossible. When I get back to the console session in my office and issue an ifconfig command, the wlan0 s...

Downsizing my SD card

I'm running a Raspberry Pi B+ with Wheezy. Somehow I got it installed on a 32 GB SD card. I use HDDRawCopy1.10Portable.exe to backup my SD cards and evidently restored to this card by mistake some time in the past. What I would like to do is to restore a backup image onto an 8 (or worst case 16) GB ...

Re: Using a Pi to Log Data in a Magnum Energy System

Paul...Well, I'm back in France after 3 weeks with my family and friends in Colorado and Wyoming. While at my son's cabin I captured several sequences of traffic between the MagWeb unit and the Magnum server. So far I'm at a brick wall to decode it all. I have found the inverter section but so far c...

Re: Using a Pi to Log Data in a Magnum Energy System

Paul..Thanks for the reply and yes, I am RDK45!!! The technique you are emulating is NOT the same as I wish to use. I have experience using a Raspberry Pi as an Internet bridge, that is a device which spies on traffic passing through it. In practice, I have the Pi attached to the internet (actually ...

Re: Using a Pi to Log Data in a Magnum Energy System

Guys.....Really got my juices flowing as I read this thread. My son has MS4448PAE inverter and ME-BMK battery monitor at his "off grid" cabin. Oddly, even though it is truly "off-grid" he has a way to get internet services. Thus, he also has the MagWeb Monitoring Kit (ME-MW-E) so he can check out th...

Re: Detect a shutdown event in Python

Ok, I have completed my tests with my Pi's: v2 with Jessie and B+ with Wheezy. I modified my program from shown above to trap the following events: SIG name = SIGTSTP; SIG number = 20 SIG name = SIGTTIN; SIG number = 21 SIG name = SIGTTOU; SIG number = 22 SIG name = SIGURG; SIG number = 23 SIG name ...

Re: Detect a shutdown event in Python

Thanks guys, you are great!!! I have to get onto some other things I have let lapse while I was playing with this problem. I will try your ideas out this weekend on this Raspberry Pi v2 and an older B+ (not sure if it is Wheezy or Jessie?).

Anyway, thanks for all of these ideas and efforts......RDK

Re: Detect a shutdown event in Python

I'm throwing in the towel for a while. I tried a few modifications to my code, paralleling some of your code, but I still am not seeing the expected results. I'll get back to this when I get my new Raspberry Pi v2. By the way, what happens if an event occurs during a "sleep()" period. I would hope t...

Re: Detect a shutdown event in Python

Well, I'm confused! My Raspberry Pi v2 does have the PiModules http://www.pimodules.com/ UPS PIco HAT module installed. I wonder if it or their software is doing something? Two things come to mind for next steps: In a couple weeks I will have another Raspberry Pi v2 and I can try some of these ideas...
