Re: 1 Wire Sensors for home heating control

<t>A couple of points on the gpio / i2c / usb discussion. It really depends on whether you want an application or you want to tinker with bits. The advantage of the USB devices is that (a) they use libusb, thus no kernel recompilation is involved and (b) they are supported by the Dallas public domai...

Re: 1 Wire Sensors for home heating control

The LinkUSB device should also work (tested with w1retap some time ago). Also from Home Chip.

Re: 1 Wire Sensors for home heating control

<t>w1retap (linux 1 wire software) already builds on ARM (I'm just waiting for the release of the production boards to move my 1 wire weather station from an Atom miniITX box5 to Raspi. Using a DS9490R USB adaptor for 1 wire means no additional hardware is required. w1retap is just one of a number o...

Re: How Much RAM does these distros use ?

<t>Just an Arch fan. I took the rootfs announced here recently, and since been getting familiar with what's available for ARM and setting the image up as I want for when I get real hardware (so wicd, sshd, sudo, users, other apps [w1retap to run my weather station]) so it'll be usable without necess...

Re: How Much RAM does these distros use ?

<t>Some non-scientific numbers, running the Arch ARM RP rootfs in qemu (256MB). AFAIK, a basic install used about 32MB at for a non-gui setup with c. no daemons running.<br/> <br/> Now, with sshd, wicd daemon, lxdm, logged in over ssh (so the X greeter is running, but no GUI login) vmstat reports:<b...

Re: UART for using Raspi without a screen

And you quite easily ensure that sshd is available, together with any other pre-requisites (users, sudo enabled etc.) by running the rootfs in qemu before copying it to the SD card.
