Re: Google Brillo anyone?

"What do you thing of Google's IoT OS?
"Google suck"
"Yeah, they suck"
Well that went downhill real quick... ;)

It would be a shame to close what should be an interesting discussion just because people feel the need to vent. Please don't.

Locked as solved. All the OT (and frankly one or two downright unhelpful) posts about what's the best / worst language deleted. If you want to discuss this please do it on another forum so the mods here don't constantly have to deal with reported posts and petty infighting. It's Bank Holiday Sunday ...

Re: Learning electronics, for smart people.

Have a look at Make: Electronics by Charles Platt. Starts easy, enough depth for serious hobbyist, good fun, lots of background and theory but not too heavy. You can look inside on Amazon... Only downside for me was US-centricity (Radioshack parts lists). This may or may not be a problem depending o...

Re: Physical form factor to support plug-in

One of the Pi prototypes (2011) was similar to what you suggest but was rejected for a number of reasons. Notably you'd have to discard connections and therefore functionality compared to a credit-card form factor. Also, it's a computer, not a media player stick. So the question isn't "why don't the...

Re: In search of a quiet mini-computer

The problem is that if you or I perform such a double blind trial no one will take us seriously. You see, we don't have white coats and "official" blessing. Even then those who like to deny any kind of scientific evidence will always find a reason to fault whatever result anybody produces. Agreed (...

Re: In search of a quiet mini-computer

There are a lot of useful suggestions in this thread, mainly about careful trials. This is not easy to do right. ... It's a myth that trials/experiments have to be hard or expensive. See for example Emily Rosa's "theraputic touch" experiment. Simple and beautiful. A (double) blind trial here would ...

My advice: have a nice cup of tea calm down start from scratch -- read the instructions again (for instance you seem to have missed point 4 which says you need an " 8gb Class 10 (or better) micro SD card." ) ... This does seem rather odd, as without his post...

Re: Free speech

Free speech is a democratic concept. This forum is not a democracy. There are many forums on the web that allow "free speech" -- they tend not to be pleasant places to be. The stuff that mods (and employees) have to deal with day-to-day would shock most people. Behind the scenes we have to deal with...

I had this screen using 8Gb class 6 card. (The instructions say that at this point you should see " a blue-screened application that says “MinWin” at the top".

I left it going out of curiosity and eventually it rebooted back to that logo then the main screen as normal.

It's not that the debate isn't wanted. I like debate :). It's just that debate based on misinformation and misunderstanding is not at a debate at all. Statements such as " it seems to be counter to the educational mission statement of the foundation" and " it seems to run against the very charitable...
