Raspbian now has 3 kernel images in /boot

Noticed Raspbian Buster now has three kernel image files in the /boot directory - kernel.img, kernel7.img and kernel7l.img.

Would I be right in assuming the new kernel7l.img is for the Pi 4?

Re: Networking and SSH problems

No need to create a root password.

When logged into my Pi with user pi to access /root directory all I have to do is

Code: Select all

sudo su
cd /root
And when done doing whatever you need to exit from su using command

Code: Select all

exit

Re: USB Wifi driver installation Error: /lib/modules/4.14.98+/build: No such file or directory. Stop

The module you are trying to compile does not appear to usable with kernel versions 4.19.xx as it is relatively old. However, just noted that the driver is for wifi adapters of type 8188c/8192c. Raspbian includes a driver for 8192cu devices so you probable don't need to compile a driver, but just se...

Looks like

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/src/linux-headers-4.19.42+ /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build
will be OK.

Re: USB Wifi driver installation Error: /lib/modules/4.14.98+/build: No such file or directory. Stop

/lib/modules/4.14.98+/build is a symlnk to the linux source/headers directory needed to compile your wifi module. You can create the link using the command sudo ln -s /home/pi/src/linux /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build with directory /home/pi/src/linux set to where you Linux source is saved. Also whe...

There is a character "c" missing from the first line of the file which would cause your problem, but possibly it is a typo.

Hi meulen92, A version of the mt7610 wifi driver is included in the newer version of Raspbian kernels 4.19.xx. It is module mt76x0.ko I would think all you will need to do to get it working is set up the wifi configuration. With your wifi adapter connected to the Pi does command lsmod show module mt...

In the description it says "Supports Linux (requires install of rtl8188fu driver from Github )". I hope it does what you want.
Looks OK. Thanks rpdom.
