Re: Future Pi Zero W Suggestion

In the second category, we have things like more RAM, a faster CPU, USB 3.0, 4k, etc. These are all things that everyone wants, we all know that it's too expensive to put them on a $5-35 board, but they will all eventually be added once the technology drops in price. To clarify, most of the things ...

Re: Future Pi Zero W Suggestion

There's dozens of pink ponies (4K HDMI, USB3.0, Gigabit ethernet, more than one OTG capable USB on a zero) and a unicorn (more than 1GB of RAM) that we'd all like on RPinext, but it's not going to happen. Agreed that it's extraordinarily unlikely that any of those will appear before they make a new...

Re: Future Pi Zero W Suggestion

Saying, "I wish the Pi had X and Y" isn't insulting. Saying "OMG the Pi is going to die if they don't immediately add features X and Y, how could the RPF not know this?" often indicates a lack of understanding of the issues involved, and perhaps does border on being insulting. The RPF folk have repe...

Re: Pi Compute Adapter

I don't recall ever seeing /tmp as being on a tmpfs on a standard Raspian install. Ack, you're right - /tmp isn't on tmpfs, it's just /dev, /run, and a bit of /sys. I was crossing wires with FreeBSD where (at least back when we were running it in production) /tmp was on a special filesystem (actual...

Re: Pi Compute Adapter

FWIW, Raspbian got a lot better with respect to microSD card troubles a while back when they shifted /tmp and some of the "behind the scenes" filesystems over to tmpfs. That cut down on a lot of second-by-second write activity to the card. Nearly all my Pi's run 24/7 and I haven't had a card failure...

Just to confirm, I'm runnng 64GB microSD cards in several Pi's (Pi2B and Pi Zero) with no trouble at all. Used Etcher to install the latest (at the time) Raspbian image, and it Just Worked, no special hoops to jump through.

Re: Questions about A rack for a Raspberry Pi Cluster

I haven't seen any modular ones, offhand, but I keep looking longingly at this Bramble Box case from c4labs.net. It'll hold 4 Raspberry Pi 3B's stacked one atop another with (optionally) a Western Digital PiDrive at the bottom of the stack. I've been impressed with their other cases (their parts fit...

Sales of 13 million + SBCs - no1 on Earth - but still scared of discussing any competition = sign of psychological weakness! Disappointed :( "Scared"? "sign of psychological weakness"? Really? Do you always jump to such twisted conclusions? Capriciously assigning motivations to others and then atta...

Re: SSH Putty doesn't work (RPi Zero W)

It would be a bit tricky to connect a Zero Wireless Pi to the router with an Ethernet cable. Not the slightest bit difficult with something like this: Plugable Micro USB to 10/100 Fast Ethernet or this: Smays Micro USB Ethernet with 3 Port Hub . I've used both, at various times, and they're plug'n'...

Edited to add: FWIW, I found an eBay listing for a Sony PVM-9020ME Trinitron Color Video Monitor , with some pictures; it shows 3 BNC connectors (with labels that don't ring a bell for me) and a DIN plug of some s...

Re: Is the RPi "just" an educational tool ?

My impression of that is it mostly comes from those eager to defend RPT/RPF decision making who wish to show their loyalty and support for the RPT/RPF in dismissing requests for change. I think you are seeing what you want to see, rather than what really is. And that's a pretty twisted way to look ...

Re: Is the RPi "just" an educational tool ?

As usual, people are getting their panties in a twist over the perceived implication that there is something less than 100% perfect about the Pi. And as usual, you either accidentally or willfully misunderstand the points being made, then take a patronizing tone and overstate other poster's positio...

Re: Is the RPi "just" an educational tool ?

Has the RPi outgrown its intended purpose as an educational tool ? Outgrow , verb grow too big for (something) • leave behind as one matures • grow faster or taller than Outgrown? No. It was intended as an educational tool, and it continues to serve that purpose admirably. It has not "grown too big...

Re: Device Power Issue for long micro USB cables

Anyone have any suggestions on a power adapter I could use to get the power I need to the device? The more effective method, of course, is a 10 foot AC extension cord and keep the 5V adapter right next to the Pi. No microUSB cable is going to have zero loss, so it becomes a bit of a guessing game t...

Re: Pi Zero W Antenna Mod Suggestion (Plea in fact)

Why is the functionality there if there is no intention of people being able to use it. I'd venture a guess it's so that they can submit for FCC certification exactly the same circuit board they use for in-house testing. Can you not let RPF answer/not answer for themselves is also what he is trying...

Re: Where to the the PiZ or PiZW in Australia?

ThePiLocator shows that most of the official distributors currently have them in stock. Supply of the Zero W actually seems pretty plentiful compared to a corresponding amount of time after the launch of the Zero. ThePiHut and Pimoroni are both very good choices, and have less expensive shipping to...

Re: Can anyone please recommend a suitable speakers for RPi.

FWIW, I'm running these speakers on my main Pi 3B. I'd initially planned to power them off one of the Pi's USB ports, but found that that caused occasional small amounts of noise, sort of like listening to IO or CPU traffic. Wasn't earth shattering, but was annoying, as I wanted them dead silent whe...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 possible h.265 decoder?

I find it amusing when folks suggest the Pi absolutely has to add X or Y new feature, or it will "lose out" to competitors. The Foundation's goal is education, not to win the PC race. The specs of a typical desktop PC will blow the Pi out of the water, but that doesn't matter - the Pi, as is, is tre...

I have a couple of Model B's that run continuously, 24/7, for months on end (receiving and sending data using MQTT over WiFi and running displays), only "stopping" when I reboot them to update the OS. They're both running the latest version of Raspbian. The age of the hardware and model of Pi is not...
