Re: Upload a pic every minute

pi as webserver - see https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... /apache.md. You won't need the PHP stuff for now.
Later if you want to connect that to the actual internet, you will need better security than that article shows.

Re: Upload a pic every minute

OK so update that raspistill command and add the -l new.jpg Now you will get new.jpg in your pictures folder. And, it always respresents the latest image so we can use it and its name does not change. That makes it easier to create a web page on your pi, or upload that file (new.jpg) regularly to so...

Re: Upload a pic every minute

Sorry I did not explain it very well. The example I gave will create a folder full of images (one every minute) and also links the latest image to "new.jpg". So we can just use new.jpg every time; it will show the latest image. And the video creation will still work. Is your existing timelapse using...

Re: Upload a pic every minute

We could use raspistill (thanks to @6by9 and @mikerr) to link the most recently taken image to "new.jpg". We can then host a webserver on the pi with a page showing new.jpg and having a javascript refesh every minute. Look at that page from anywhere to see the latest image. e.g use raspistill timela...

Re: Can't access Pi over WAN

Yes what drgeoff said and for apache2, the completely standard install with no mucking about will get you a basic html page you can look at on your local LAN. Then you need that other stuff to port forward port 80, have a DNS address etc.

Re: inotify to detect file or directory modify events

Any reason why you have to use file change detection and not something a lot simpler?
e..g UI sets a GPIO high. A python3 program on the pi waits for GPIO to go high, then does something e.g. read a file...

Ah, what does your code (simple.py) give on the pi3 with nothing attached and the pi4 with nothing attached? Start a terminal and run the script (no Thonny/IDLE...)
on my pi4 I get

Code: Select all

python simple.py
1
0
on my pi3B+ I get

Code: Select all

python simple.py
1
0

Re: can't get super simple gpio button tutorial to work

Yes what @drgeoff said about the small pushbuttons. And did it give 1,0 with nothing connected (yes)? For "dodgy" (i.e. not working well) wiring, it could be poor (i.e. loose or damaged) connections inside the breadboard, or a connector on the dupont cable may be loose, or the conductor inside the i...

Re: Can't access Pi over WAN

Ah, the address reserved in your router is only reserved in your house, the outside world can not see it. You probably need some sort of dynamic DNS service running, so that from the internet (WAN) you can use a Domain name for your pi e.g. for apache2, http://www.myapache2.org That DNS service link...

Maybe solder three wires into a Y shape, put the lower single wire into the hole.

Re: can't get super simple gpio button tutorial to work

It looks like your wiring is dodgy (or switches the wrong way round) as if you run your code without anything attached to any GPIO pin, you get: python simple.py 1 0 I am running that from a terminal, no IDLE, no THONNY, no GEANY And @Dougie's idea is a good one to have a while loop looking at the b...

Not sure on bash but here is a short python script

Code: Select all

import os
import string
f = os.popen('vcgencmd measure_clock arm').readline()
f = f.replace("frequency(45)=","")
f = int(f)/1000000
print f,"MHz"

Re: Poor WiFi signal with Raspeberry Zero W

What does the signal level look like if you measure it on your smartphone e.g. using the free WifI Analyzer for Android, with the phone near the pi? On mine I get -33dBm on the phone, -37dBm on the pi and both are 2m from the router, no walls between.
