I have a photo too, but it is over 64Kb :( I have struggled with this for last four weeks ... backup the card first if you can, so you can revert if changes cause more problems I had "need_statd=yes" in /etc/default/nfs-common reverting this to "need_statd=" helped I got around 1 in 10 boots succede...

just to add a "me too" :( mine failed similary aftert a dist-upgrade on 6th July (systemd related?) machinw was also headlesa server also running as ntp server, ftp client, Samba server, UPS monitor . as far as I can see, no IPv4, No dhcp, No login, no dbus a couple of second of messages on screen, ...

I did and rpi-update this morning, and ended up with a machine that would not boot (unable to mount filesystems on my Transcend 4Gb card) So I went out and bought a new 32Gb PNY card, and copied the image across from the old card. my ntp servers and clients run under dhcp with no problem

could you post your /etc/ntp.conf file? and the result of 'grep ntpd /var/log/daemon.log' ?

Try commenting out the 'server' line in your /etc/ntp.conf and replacing it with - pool pool.ntp.org iburst preempt (you might need a tos minclock 3 maxclock 4 as well) This will automatically replace unreachable clock sources with new ones from the pool.
