Re: COAX input for B+ and Kodi

That is a F-connector used for digital cable TV. look for a DVB-C (cable) usb stick instead of a DVB-T(terrestrial) or analog TV receiver stick. There should be plenty to choose from. if you can, find out the chipset used in the one you're going to buy and check if it has linux support.

(OT) reverse use of Gert's VGA add-on for the B+

Hmm. wouldn't it be possible to reverse the use of (or modify) the vga666 to INPUT an analog RGBhv signal, to capture for example the picture from an Atari ST or other vintage computer, effectively using the pi as a RGB -> HDMI converter with recording and/or video effects option, or just having the...

This paired with OCR software could be a valuable tool for fund-strapped libraries to digitize books.. and with the pi everything is scriptable, and it could even drive a page-flipper robot, making it possible to "scan" entire volumes unattended.. and with a the pi2 its even practical to run the ocr...

RTS/CTS needed. Levelshifter or usb dongle?

I wish to connect my Visual 550 (old serial terminal, vt100 + tektronix 4010 emulation) to my new raspberry pi model B+, which will the run headless with the terminal as console (for the purpose of demonstrating the terminal and being generally coolskool). The terminal requires hardware flow control...

Re: Cursor hanging after commands ending with $

the Reverse I -search is a result of bash capturing the ^R before readline gets it. In /bin/sh it works as old unix would. bash does many ugly things with terminal handling, It is barely at all useable on a really limited terminal, like my Tektronix 4006 (which is basically a glass TTY with fancy ve...

Re: What was your first computer?

I'm born in 1976. My first computer use was on a friend's C64, probably around 1984. The first computer in our home was an Apple IIe dad bought for Xmas 1986, with 128K ram, two 140K 51/4 inch floppies and green monitor. that one taught me BASIC. I was given a Luxor ABC802 probably around 1988, by a...

I got my B+ earlier this week, and had similar problems: I used to "backpower" my model B from a 2 amp supply driving a cheap 7 port hub + a passive 4 port hub. On the system I have two printers, one usb powered flatbed scanner, KVM switch (with mouse and kbd), DVB-T stick, serial dongle, parallel d...

I did the credit card + superglue trick which worked perfectly, thanks for that tip. I just bought a B+ to be the new living room retrogamer throwaroun...

You can use ther running (raspbian?) system on the pi to format the card, provided you have a usb cardreader to plug into the pi (and a free port for it) just like on any other debian system.

Re: SD card starting to bend

SD cards are very thin... and with one of the cases that leave the sd card sticking out we are asking for trouble. I use one of my pi:s asa a retrocomputer emulator, which means it gets plugged in and out of the living room TV regularly, and inevitably it will sonner or later land on the sd card's p...

Thanks for a quick answer. I was indeed thinking about a passive dvi -> vga adapter, but the more i think the less likely to work it seems, since as you say the digital signals never go inte the vga cable at all. One way could be to rewire a custom dvi -> vga adapter and an oppositely wired vga -> d...

KVM switch thoughts

Hi, I have an old VGA KVM switch. I was thinking, if I connect this with a vga-DVI adapter to the DVI-I port of my monitor, could I theoretically use a hdmi-dvi-vga adapter series into the switch and get it switching between my other computer's analog signal and the rpi:s digital one ? as it is now ...
