urllib timeout or other solutions?

Hi all,

So I have a bit of a problem in that my python sketch seems to stop working someitmes when the internet connection cuts out. Is there anyway to tell it to keep trying for a set period of time? I'm using the urllib to take some information from a website.

thank you,
Bruce

Re: need help running root crontab

Hi all,

Just as a final update incase anyone finds this thread in a search one day. I never got crontab to work for me, I ended up using the rc.local file in the init.d folder. The rc.local which was in the /etc/ folder did not work for me.

Hi all, I've been working on this project for the last few week, you may remember me asking dumb questions here and there. Anyway I thought I should share the project with everyone. Re: Sound not working - releaseALC: 1 device not closed

hi el_P,

the full error says "AL lib: releaseALC: 1 device not closed"

maybe it has something to do with the library?

Sound not working - releaseALC: 1 device not closed

Hello, I'm trying to use the pyglet library to play an mpf file in my program. After a good amount of fooling with it, it now works on my computer, however it does not work on the RP. The error message I get is "releaseALC: 1 device not closed". And the code I'm using is: music = pyglet.media.load("...

Keyboard layout

Hi, For some reason my keyboard seems to be US or UK layout but I need it to be Swiss layout. I found the keyboard layout file but it was already set to "ch" (which should be swiss). Also just to add I am connecting to my RP with Remmina remote desktop client which came with my Ubuntu OS. Thanks, Br...

Re: python-rpi.gpio off raspberry pi

Re: python-rpi.gpio off raspberry pi

Hi all, Thanks for the ideas. Basically what I have is a RP sitting without a keyboard or monitor, so right now I use putty to SSH into the machine to install/run stuff. For sending over the files I use filezilla with SSH, very easy. So let me think about it some more. I'll post back with whatever I...

Re: camera for car

Thanks for the info. Are you saying that even if you shutdown the RP, it's still pulling power all the time? If thats the case then it's a little more complex, I guess when the RP gets the signal that the car is shut down it could then send a signal of it's own to an external timer which could switc...

python-rpi.gpio off raspberry pi

Hello, I've ran into a small problem in that I can't seem to import GPIO on my regular computer, it give me a message of some sort that it can only be ran on a raspberry pi. Of course I'd like to write the code on my regular PC and the send it over to the RP, so how is this normally done? thanks, Br...

Hi! My name is Hugo and I am a guy who love computers, physics, technology and Linux. The first technical thing I ever learned was how to use the TV-remote. Re: camera for car

For the size of the camera maybe you could take apart a standard webcam to make the profile as small as possible. For shutdown I could imagine that you could use one of the GPIO pins so that when it didn't get power from some source, it would start shutting down. Or it could be programmed to stay on...
