Re: How to Power this 3.5 inch LCD?

Here's a good reference: http://www.wisegai.com/2012/11/29/raspb ... using-usb/ .
The monitor will also run off 5 volts with a little soldering and that might fit a bit better into your project.

Re: Active Directory

This would be a challenge. I spent several weeks getting Solaris 10 to use Windows 2008R2 active directory. There were special configurations for pam.conf, krb5.conf and ldap.conf (on Solaris it's ldap_client_file and ldap_client_cred). I also spent a good amount of time getting Solaris to work with...

Re: Phptest file now showing

You don't have to rename the file. phptest.php is fine. Just put it into your DocumentRoot directory and point your browser to it: http://raspberrypi_name_or_ip/phptest.php. If you get a blank page, it means there's a syntax error in the phptest.php file...you won't get an error message, you'll just...

Re: Car stereo/touch screen.

Most cars these days come with usb ports and aux power ports. The aux (cigarette lighter) will give you the 12 volts that the screen undoubtedly requires and the usb port would provide the 5 volts. I'm sure they also make 12 volt adapters that have both built in...a usb port and a 12-volt port.

Re: shell script throwing error on rpi but works fine on ubu

The hostname command will also give you the ip addresses.

For example: hostname -I (that's a capital i). It won't tell you which ones are active and it won't give you the nic (e.g. eth0), but it works for basic stuff.

Re: Motion Webcam Permissions Issue

Permissions issues on Unix can drive you mad. Step away from the whole camera/motion thing for a moment and try to do some stuff manually. Log in as "motion" and try copying/creating a lastsnap.jpg file in the images directory. If you can, then see if you can overwrite it. Experiment with different ...

And remember that you might have iptables blocking all incoming traffic external to your LAN.

Re: motorcycle noise when playing most video

When dealing with audio "noise," it is always a good idea to first check your grounds.

Much like when you have problems with your Pi you check power first.

Re: Edimax WiFi Adapter - Can scan wifi networks but no inte

You might want to check your router. I set up a new Pi a week or so ago, and it would not connect to the internet at home no matter what I did. I could connect to it on the LAN, but there was no internet. And all of my other Pis and machines had no problems connecting to the internet. I can't tell y...

Re: Will this setup work?

If you do a search, you will find that people have been able to make a few solders and run these small backup camera screens on 5 volts. Several of them have a 5v regulator in them. I've done that with the 4.3 screen and it works just fine. Here's one: http://www.wisegai.com/2012/11/29/raspberry-pi-...

On your page there is a typo in the url for the Utilite. You have it as .co instead of .com.

Re: Case that hides everything except ethernet and power por

What I would like is to have my Pi in a case that just plugs into the ac outlet, much like this: http://pwnieexpress.com/products/pwnplug-elite. I'd probably have a peephole in it if you wanted to use the camera module. If you used wifi, nothing would be exposed. If you really wanted to hide it in p...

I had this happen today. Motion did not have permission to write to the directory where I told it to put the video images. As a result, motion would shut down shortly after startup.

Check your iptables setup. On one distribution I tried, the pi was set to ignore all requests coming from the outside world.

Re: Need advice on power supply

Almost all power supplies will list the amperage they can provided. Of course, they can lie, too. But anything less than 1 amp is probably going to cause you frustration down the road. Something else you probably ought to know...if you buy an ac adapter with two usb ports and it says it outputs 2.1 ...
