Re: Back up SD

rsync is always popular. Since the SD card is so easily removable though, I'd think about using a Live CD on another computer to dd an image of it. You can pipe the output of dd to gzip or something to compress it, though it might not be all that compressible if there's random rubbish taking up the ...

Have a search of this forum for the keyword 'autostart'. Plenty of threads.

You're presumably using the default LXDE environment?

Re: Two passwords

Normally you would just do

Code: Select all

ssh <user>@<ip or hostname>
So unless I'm misunderstanding something you want

ssh pi@raspberrypi

or

ssh pi@192.168.0.102

if that won't work

Re: Doing somethin useful in idle time

Maybe try adding Einstein@home - you can do it from the menu in boincmgr as far as I remember (sorry, killed my Pi temporarily so I can't check  ), rather than having to enter a URL.

Re: Doing somethin useful in idle time

Boinc is in the repo. Assuming that's Raspbian, just

Code: Select all

sudo aptitude install boinc
Then run boincmgr to set it up.

Re: Can't boot my pi

There's an outside chance that hitting Ctrl-c a few times might help. But unless you upgraded anything or made any configuration changes which coincided with the boot failing, it sounds like your card might be corrupt I'm afraid to say - in which case the best option is to reinstall. Note - you can ...

I'm not going to continue this thread, but please understand that I'm not attacking you personally.

It's a simple fact that if people don't do searches themselves, the board will deteriorate under the weight of people asking the same questions over and over again.

Maybe just try sleeping for a minute (either in Python, or in a bash wrapper which calls the Python) before you run it?

Or more likely, flash will be buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in the danker corners of usenet...

OP: there are various Firefox plugins that work around flash, and they should work with comparable versions of Iceweasel. Have a google for "firefox video without flash" or something.

Have you tried switching on encryption? It might help - makes it harder for the ISP to identify torrent traffic. There is normally a setting in the torrent client. Also helps to poke holes in your router's firewall.

Well, there have been a few good suggestions for diagnostics in this thread. You'll either need to provide more information (as suggested above), or try limiting the download rate. I haven't tried the syntax, but a google search suggests that putting this in /etc/apt/apt.conf will work. Acquire { Qu...

Re: Trouble Downloading the latest Raspian Whezzy

Bittorrent is really good for that - you can even start a bittorrent download, stop the client, replace the file it's writing to with a corrupt 'normal' download, and turn the client back on.

It'll find the broken parts of it and fix it.

Re: Back up SD

Are you trying to back up Raspbian from within Raspbian? That's not going to work that way - the system you're trying to back up will be mounted read / write and undergoing changes while you're trying to copy it. The resultant image will probably be inconsistent and corrupt. If you've got access to ...

Re: Permission denied

Would probably help if you provide a link to the tutorial, but

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir /home/webcam
will work on Raspbian.

Edit - it's also useful to state what operating system and version you're using when asking for help.
