Relative wind speed is much easier than that. Use a simple slotted disc on your horizontal windmill and count pulses.

Wind direction can be measured with two discs with multiple slots on a weather vane. Look up 'Gray code' as well.

I have picked these figures off the web, so no guarantees!

If you can program the GPU as well as the processor (and can utilise the parallel processing) then you need 5 R-pi to match a core-i7

But if you just use the processor then you will need a few hundred.

set the R-pi to boot to a browser. Home page is your news page. Could just be a file on the memory card. Use Ajax JQuery to pull in and display each news item/ image
