Re: newbie question: Raspberry logo on start-up

It shows the number of CPU cores. A 3B has four cores, a Zero only one.

Re: Virtual Desktop with RealVNC

Thank You Leo If you're starting from Jessie lite, then you won't have a desktop environment installed, hence the black screen. To get the full PIXEL desktop, you'd need to install the raspberrypi-ui-mods package. That should, in theory, pull in all the required dependencies you need. Although it ma...

Re: Using the Pi for SMS

As well as using a modem and SIM card there are a number of providers that let you send and receive Texts via a web service. In the UK I have used Connection Software ( https://www.csoft.co.uk/ ) extensively. Don't know if they are better or worse than others but I have always fond them helpful and ...

Much more information needed.
Are the two Pis behind a firewall / router?
What do you mean by "Access" the Kodi device? Stream the media files stored locally on it over the Internet? Remote control it's playback to an attached screen? Or What?

What are you using to power the zero?

V2 camera quality

I'm very disappointed with the V2 camera. I have two one bought last week when i believed that the original focus issue had been fixed in manufacturing. Don't think that is correct now. Taking two pictures side by side out of my back window one with the old camera and one with the new, both at 1280x...

Re: Camera / display connectors

Update - With the release of the new Zero with the same connectors, I have taken advantage of a couple of videos people have posted and can now see how to use the connector. I had not realised that it is the small black part of the connector rather than the bigger white part that moves. Easy when yo...

No, I'm afraid not, it shows a raspberry pi not a compute io board and the connectors are different.

Camera / display connectors

This is a really dumb question, but I can't see how these connectors work. Which bit pulls up or opens? I don't want to break them.

Re: The Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Q&A thread

Is anyone using the Pi 3 with a wireless keyboard ? I would like to use the onboard wifi for a network connection and use a wireless keyboard & touchpad as well but I was worried about possible conflicts or interference. If anyone knows of a keyboard that works (or knows that I am worrying about no...

Don't get one of these. The support is non-existant. You need either to run a VERY old kernel or TRY to compile one yourself.

Try the Broadcom WiFi adaptor and USB hub. https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/usb- ... fi-adaptor
Works great. I keep a couple in my tool kit for setting up Pis before running them headless.

Jessie expand disk

Apologies if this has been raised before. Tried out Jessie from a clean install yesterday. When first booted, it goes to the desktop. (I still think that is a very bad idea - but I'll shut up about it!). It no longer goes to raspi-config automatically. Does it expand the disk automatically anyway? I...

Re: su, not sudo?

log in as user pi as normal
type in "sudo -i"
will take you to a root prompt "#"
create a root password using "passwd"

You now can log in as root.
