Re: CAN controller

VAG-COM works because it is doing a request then the car does a reply. When you use candump it is only listening, there is no request. The OBDII port is not a direct connection to the CAN network, it is via a gateway. The gateway isolate you from the internal network, that is why you don't see any m...

Re: CAN controller

Found the problem on the latest Jessie release 2016-05-10. They changed the syntax for the overlay. The config.txt file need to be updated. sudo nano /boot/config.txt Changed from this: dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0-overlay,oscillator=16000000,interrupt=25 to this dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0,oscillator=16000000...

Re: new Raspbian version 2016-05-10

I think CAN is broken. I now get a Cannot find device "can0".

Version 4.1 2016-03-18 works fine.

Re: CAN controller

Can someone from the Raspberry Pi team please try CAN with the latest Jessie release 2016-05-10.

I think CAN is broken. When I try to bring up the interface it says Cannot find device "can0".

Re: CAN controller

Still not quite working with two mcp2515 devices. The original setup works fine with one mcp2515. I've added another device and connected the Chip Select to GPPIO7/CE1. In the /boot/config.txt file I've added the line: dtoverlay=mcp2515-can1-overlay,oscillator=16000000,interrupt=25 With an logic ana...

Re: CAN controller

Ok, I've found the .dts for for CAN1 https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/bl ... verlay.dts

Looks like the only difference is for the CAN0 and CAN1 overlay is spi0.0 and spi0.1

So spi0.0 uses GPIO8/CE0
and spi0.1 uses GPPIO7/CE1 ?

Re: CAN controller

Have a look at the device tree overlay, the chip select is hard coded in there. https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/848 Hi Dougie, thanks for the reply. Looking the mcp2515-spi0.0.dts it doesn't say SPI 0 chip select is on GPIO8/CE0 but it is working for CAN0. I want to add another mcp2515 ...

Re: CAN controller

If you are asking: can I run multiple can boards (mcp251x or otherwise)? Then the answer is yes: you can easily do that - right now I run 2 mcp2515 and it works fine (with the correct device-tree). You can even add some kernel based CAN-bridging between the two interfaces by using the cangw tool to...

Re: CAN controller

pravinkamble,

Check you have a correct entry in the /boot/config.txt file.

Make sure you have add these lines.

dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0-overlay,oscillator=16000000,interrupt=25
dtoverlay=spi-bcm2835-overlay

Re: CAN controller

The procedure is for use with PiCAN board
http://skpang.co.uk/catalog/pican-canbu ... -1196.html
Don't know if it will work with other boards.

This is the procedure:

You don't need the sudo rpi-update anymore.

Just tried the new Raspbian Jessie and PiCAN works fine. You don't need to do rpi-update anymore.

Good work.

Re: Power display from Pi 2 ?

I've also tried to power the display from the Pi and also couldn't get it to work. I think the reason is that there is a power up delay on the USB port on the Pi. By the time the USB port is powered up the Pi has already tried to initialise display but it is not ready. You almost like to need to pow...

Re: CAN controller

Got the basic CAN sending and receiving working on the LPC11C24. Using the LPCXpresso IDE seems to be straight forward and the CAN examples works fine. Going to do some high speed buffer test next.

Re: CAN controller

Just ordered the LPCXpresso demo board. Let me see if I can get the basic CAN part working and go on from there.

It doesn't have to be the LPC11C24 but it is a good price MCU.

Re: CAN controller

The LPC11C22 is £2.30 so it is comparable to MCP2515+MCP2561. The LPC11C22 can do all the CAN buffering then talk to the Pi via SPI.

Would anyone like to write a driver for the Pi and firmware for the LPC11C22 if I develop a board for the Pi?

Re: CAN controller

I'm trying to listen to CAN bus messages via the obd2 port on my 2011 Audi Q5. I have can0 up and I've tried all the bitrates, but I see no messages with candump/cansniffer. The stats on the can0 interface don't even budge from 0. Some OBDII port are isolated from your internal CAN network via a ga...
