i am having a bit of trouble setting up NOOBS. i downloaded it, put it on my formatted SD card, and stuck it in my pi, nothing happened. i tried the different keys for display settings but cant get it to work. thank you all for answering my stupid questions :D Did you follow the instructions listed...

You'll need to put sudo in front of that command to run it as root.
