Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

When I change to hello_triangle demo to not bail out on a Pi 4, it hangs in the same eglCreateContext. Is there any way to get OpenGL ES/Dispmanx applications working on the Pi 4? No it will need minor changes to the code. The good news is after the changes the code will run unchanged on earlier Pi...

That fixed the compile :-) And it's getting 48-50 fps. I have 128M of GPU memory if that makes a difference.
Shouldn't make a difference - gpu mem is needed by legacy driver, but arm side driver can just use normal arm memory.

Re: Thread from Pi4 discussion

Oh - you may need:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libgles2-mesa-dev
(best not to use the /opt/vc/include ones - they are for a different driver).

I just followed the instructions in the comments and it compiled with no changes.

Code: Select all

pi@domnfs:~/projects/gl $ g++  -lX11 -lEGL -lGLESv2  egl-example.cpp
pi@domnfs:~/projects/gl $ ./a.out

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

What I'm not clear about is how the new architecture interacts with the hardware.. The frames per second performance of that example is not what would have expected, which leads me to think it isn't using the hardware to got the openGLES rendering but is using slower arm side "new" stuff ?. What re...

rpi-update breaks the load. It somehow deletes the start.elf file.
When did you update? This should have been fixed at 12:36 today. Any updates after that point should include the start.elf file.

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.19

Just added start_x=1 to the config.txt and then updated to 4.19.55. And now the system boots. The start sentences text at the startup however are now rather big. Putting the start_x=1 on a other location in the config.txt does not seem to help. Doing another rpi-update should get the missing start....

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

Do you know why they don't they work on the Pi4 ? I've just found that my own openGLES2 code doesn't work any more but I've not yet looked what has broken it. When running with the legacy GL driver you needed proprietary setup to create a surface for GL to render to (the dispmanx calls). With the a...

latest update tag 4.19.55, Rpi2B won't boot.
Is start.elf present? There was a bug in rpi-update that should be fixed now.
Add start_x=1 to config.txt and see if it boots.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

Some DVB-T TV channels use MP2 (e.g. in Sweden) and this could mean that playback is worse on Pi 4 B than on Pi 3 B+. I have not bought a license key for MP2 so I'm not using the hardware decoder anyway. I use e.g. VLC to watch TV using TVHAT on Pi 3 B. Denmark, which is close to where I live, uses...

I have a DSI-attached non-official display which works fine with vc4-kms-v3d when in normal landscape mode. However, if I switch to vc4-fkms-v3d I get no display at all. fkms means firmware drives the display. Only official display are supported by firmware. kms is the only option for non-official ...

Would it be possible to enable in further updates to kernel 4.19 CAKE packet scheduler?
For feature requests create and issue here: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues
Including links or test results that show the benefits will help.

In your opinion do I need to check something?
Nope. Minor kernel bumps rarely cause issues so you shouldn't expect a problem, but there are rare exceptions.
The major kernel bumps (e.g. 4.14->4.19) have a higher chance of issues, but they seem to have been resolved now.

It had worked better on the 4.14 kernel, (not sure what version but one of the latest ones). Can you identify the exact update which caused this. See: https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commits/master If you click on each commit the end of the url contains a git hash. Run sudo rpi-update <hash>...

As of 1.35pm, 6 May 2019, "sudo rpi-update" gives the error "Invalid git hash specified". Tested on RPi Zero W and RPi3 running stock Raspbian.
It's working here. May have been a temporary github issue? Does it still fail?
