HDMI + Touchscreen??

Hi
I have a RasPi 3 connected to the official 7" touchscreen.

Is it possible/practical to have a monitor connected to the HDMI port at the same time as the touchscreen ribbon cable is attached?

Thanks

Re: Other submenu item

Hi Thanks for the reply, but wow, it's complicated! I shall have to sit down and study it. It still doesn't answer my questions as to why a load of entries have appeared in the "Other" menu", not at my behest and trying to find them and get rid of them is like looking for a needle in the proverbial ...

Other submenu item

Hi I have a RasPi 3B. The other day, I added a menu item to run a program of mine, by copying its desktop shortcut to /usr/share/applications. It duly appeared under a new submenu item, called other. It was the sole entry. Since then, I have installed various software and other now has loads of item...

Re: GPS problems

Hi My earlier post indicating how I had solved the problem was wishful thinking! Everything was fine until I did an update/upgrade, when, hey presto, the problem returned! Earlier, you hadf asked me whether gpsd was running. I issued a killall gpsd and it made no difference. Today, I looked in task ...

Right click, raspi touchscreen, Buster

Hi I have a RasPi 3B with the official 7" touchscreen. I have been trying to find out to "right click" with my digit. I found TwoFing, but installing this got rid of my desktop altogether!! Is there a method which will work with Buster please? "Double-clicking" is also hopeless! Even trying to alter...

Re: GPS problems

Hi again Well, I have cured the problem but I don't know why! On a whim, I edited my gps.c file, changing ACM0 to AMA0 and recompiled it. It ran fine with ./gps. I got garbage from it but so what? I then re-edited gps.c back to what it was and recompiled. Now, it runs with ./gps, sudo no longer requ...

Re: GPS problems

Hi
Thanks for the reply.

There are 2 entries with dialout, when I do ls -l /dev/tty*, ACM0 and AMA0:

crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 166, 0 Nov 14 22:50 /dev/ttyACM0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 204, 64 Nov 14 13:07 /dev/ttyAMA0

Re: GPS problems

Hi Thanks for the reply. I killed GPSD but it made no difference. It seems to be a permissions thing as sudo ./gps works, whereas ./gps gives the error message. I have another RasPi and ./gps works fine on that. I did a ls -l /dev/ttyACM0 on each machine and the permissions on both are crw--rw---- B...

Re: GPS problems

Hi Thanks for the reply. I do not think it is a coding problem as the C program worked yesterday, but not today! However, here is the code: //Get data from GPS #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <wiringSerial.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <time.h> void sleep_ms(int)...

GPS problems

Hi Yesterday, I plugged a u-bloc gps dongle into my Raspi 3. It appeared on ttyACM0 and worked fine. Today, things have changed! Putty now reports "Unable to open connection to /dev/ttyACM0, Unable to open serial port" I have written a little C program which reads data from the device. On running as...

Compiling a C module [solved]

Hi Some years ago, I wrote some little modules in C, which I used to read data from various devices and allowed me to import this into a lazarus program. Unfortuneately and stupidly, I did not note down the needed gcc line! Could anyone help me out please? The module's source code is: //Get data fro...

Re: Bluetooth transmiision?

Hi It works! I had simply followed the instructions = that's why it didn't work!! It doesn't seem a very well thought out part of the OS though! Strangely, it shows input and output as the speaker! Surely, the speaker is output only? All I need to find out now is how to push the play icon on the web...

Re: Bluetooth transmiision?

Hi folks Well, the bluetooth is hopeless! It finds and connects to my Sony SRS-X2 speaker and then tells me to go to Preferences-> Audio Device Settings. On clicking on Select Controls, all I see is an entry PCM, no mention of the Sony. Also, despite saying it has connected correctly, the pairing li...

Re: Font Problems

Hi Thanks for the replies. I now see that fonts appear to be a minefield!! Where and how do I install fonts at the system level? As I said, i downloaded some fonts and placed them in /home/pi/.fonts. In the TLabels font list, they appeared and I selected the one I wanted. I have another RasPi also w...

Re: Font Problems

Hi Thanks for the reply. Let's clear things up! I have a Raspberry Pi 3 using a 10" screen. On the Pi, I am running my application, which, amongst others displays the time, date etc. The time digits are dislayed in TLabels. It is in these labels that I have chosen a new font. When I run the prigram ...

Re: Font Problems

Hi
Thanks for the reply.

They are true type 7 segment fonts.

Yes, they work in Libre-Office.

Yes, I do use SSH, but the tresults are just the same when I run the program directly.
No, there aren't any error messages at all.
I am baffled!

Font Problems

Hi, I recently installed some new fonts on my RasPi 3. I put them in /home/pi/.fonts. After this I used fc =cache -v -f to update things. I then rebooted the Pi. I then went into lazarus to change some fonts in my program. The new fonts showed in the list and I made changes. On running the program f...

Hi, I have just setup my RasPi 3 with the 7 inch touchscreen and it looks fine, but when I vnc into it from my laptop, everything is ridiculously big - icons text etc and when I go into lazarus, everything is so ridiculously big that the program is unusable. I can find no way of making things look n...

Re: Connecting to a Raspi with a server

Hi Thanks for the reply. The problem I have is that the fibre router is not mine- it is leased from a cable provider, so I have no access to it. As regards security, all my webserver is doing (when and if it all works) is to either send data from my caravan system or repond to a handful of commands ...
