SD card woes!

Hi, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice? I have a RasPi3, running stretch. It has a hard drive connected, so the SD card is only used to boot it up. I have a complicated setup on the RasPi and like to keep a backup, by copying the SD card, which contains the same information as on the hard di...

Re: DNSmasq problems

Hi
Thankjs for the reply. I find I am out oif date! I am using Stretch, not Jessie and, without your link, I most certainly had the problem! Without that if statement, all is fine.

Re: Bridging

Hi
Thanks for that, but whenever I try to substitute wlan1 for eth0, brutils won't allow mw me to and says the operation is not allowed, hence my post.

Bridging

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me? I want to use my RasPi3, running Stretch as a wifi router in my caravan. I want wlan0 to be the AP. Internet would either come from a wifi dongle on wlan1, talking to an access point on the site or from a pole-mounted bridge, which plugs into eth0. I decided to try...

Re: DNSmasq problems

Hi You are a star!! I did as the post suggested and voila, it all works again! I am mightily relieved! What troubles me is why the problem surfaced. Was it changes to dnsmasq or the conf file due to the upgrade? I don't understand the deleted code - what's it for? I would like to try and understand ...

DNSmasq problems

Hi, I have a RasPi3 running jessie. Amongst other things, it acts as a router with the AP on wlan0 and internet coming in on wlan1. All has worked fine until late Summer when, after an upgrade, I can log onto the AP but my Win10 laptop rerports no internet connectivity. The Pi itself gets internet j...

Upgrade messes up dnsmasq!

After a recent upgrade to my RasPi3 with stretch, a perfectly working Pi has been rendered useless! It is configured as a router. DNSMasq now gives an error msg during bootup. I have lost dns, so I can't access any urls from my laptop, which is logged on to my Pi AP. I have lost SSH and VNC access a...

Re: Rooter with Stretch

Looking further at te problem, I logged my laptop on to Buccaneer and then looked at the network adaptor properties. It said the ipv4 address was 169.254.139.254/16 and the mask 255.255.0.0 This is not what I have in dnsmasq.conf, where the mask is 255.255.255.0 and the range of addresses as 192.168...

Rooter with Stretch

Hi, I have been battling with my RasPi3 with stretch to get it to behave as a router. It simply won't!! In previous posts, I had help setting up wlan0 as an AP, not using the INTERFACES file ad again with routng from/to wlan0/wlan1, but the end result has been no flow of packets between the two. App...

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

Hi Thanks for that - it looks complicated but I will try it. The problem I don't like is that when I run hostapd, I get the message "wlan0: Could not connect to kernel driver" and I get no routing of packets. I don't understand it as the nl80211 is supposed to be part of the distro and so how come i...

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

Thanks, I will try that. My euphoria was however short lived - now hostapd won't work! I am using the same .conf file as with jessie, but when I run hostapd, I get:: pi@CaravanPi:~ $ hostapd -B /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf nl80211: Could not configure drive...

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

Hi all SOLVED!!! I searched on metrics and found a post where metric xxx was inserted in each interface in dhcpcd.conf. So my dhcpcd.conf is now: interface wlan1 metric 199 wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant-wlan1.conf interface wlan0 nohook wpa_supplicant metric 200 ssid=Buccaneer static i...

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

I don't quite understand. I definitely want wlan0 to be the AP, as wifi pickup will be better from wlan1's aerial than it would be from the Pi's on-board aerial. Also, why did Inot have this problem before with RasPi1,2 and 3 with jessie?

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

I have deleted tht from cmdline.txt, but difference.

I don't see why wlan0 is stamping all over wlan1, when they are physically different and have their own versions of wpa_supplicant.conf, but as wlan0 comes up the ping output changes so the error message is from wlan0's hobnail boots!

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

I notice that if I take wlan0 down with sudo ifconfig wlan0 down, then wlan1 bursts into life and I can ping 8.8.8.8 no problem. If I then bring wlan0 up again, I lose the ping replies in a few seconds.

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

Further investigation exposes the true problem but I can't find a fix. With wlan0 and wlan1 with a new stretch image, both devices are logged on to my router. I then configure wlan0 as an AP, as above and it works, BUT if I do an iwconfig, I see my AP, Buccaneer, but I also see that wlan1 has also a...

Re: Stretch - broken wifi!

Further messing shows that, yes, dhcpcd.conf is ehere to put the configuration for the AP. I have: nohook wpa_supplicant ssid Buccaneer static ip_address=192.168.3.50/24 static routers=192.168.3.1 #is this right? static domain_name_servers=8.8.8.8 If I try and put anything in here about wlan1, it is...
