Re: Wind Speed and Rainfall

Looking at your pictures in a previous post I think you will be hard pressed to get any meaningful readings on the wind or rain sensors, they are all shielded by the building, 30 ft (assume 300ft in your previous was a typo) is about right for the wind but it needs to be a long way from any building...

Re: WU Rapid Fire Updates

Steve, Don't think that there is anything different in Rapid fire uploads to the normal ones, just that the upload runs more frequently. How to modify it depends on how you upload to WU. I use Joshua Carroll's wunderground-api.php this reads the data from the database so you would need to update thi...

Re: Poweline and PoE. Dangerous combination ??

Vincente, The 230V mains and 24V of the POE will not be running in the same cable. The powerline adaptors isolate the 230V from the Ethernet signal. It will be best to get the type with both 230V and Ethernet connections. The POE injector is connected AFTER the poweline adaptor. Connect the POE inje...

Karl, Try restarting the interrupt daemon with the following sudo interrupt_daemon.py restart This bit of code can be a bit temperamental so you may need to do sudo interrupt_daemon.py stop sudo interrupt_daemon.py start Otherwise check for 3V3 pulses on pin 29 of the Pi GPIO connector while the ane...

Can you post the current crontab file, I cant work out how the WU update is running, also are you closing the editor after editing the crontab file?

PCB for home constructed weather station

Does anyone know of a ready made PCB for the weather station, Sparkyhall's veroboard layout is OK but it does involve a lot of counting of holes and cutting of tracks.

The above link is for getting an official Schools weather station working. If you want to build one of your own you will need this link but it does rely on you having a little soldering ability:

Re: About uploading to wunderground.com

I assume that you are also logging this data to a local database. Have you tried comparing that to the Oracle and Wunderground data? Have you compared the data at several different times? is the difference constant or does it vary? You could try uploading some fixed readings to each and see if they ...

Re: Customizing weather station

You may not be able to buy the Oracle kit but it is not difficult to make your own copy all you need is the ability to solder and these instructions:

As for extra sensors you can tweak the Python code to read several different sensors.

Re: Help with some sensors and calculations + wifi

Read this and it should answer most of your questions. https://github.com/sparkyhall/DIY-Raspberry-Pi-Weather-Station As for the wireless rain sensor, just wire the reed switch directly to the Pi and save yourself a lot of bother. I assume you are using the standard weather station software, lots of...

Re: Temperature / humidity sensor HTU21D

Stan, Humidity is another of those things that are difficult to measure, huge variation due to sensor siteing and proximity of trees, hedges, grass below, air flow over sensor etc. I just aim for repeatability from day to day and month to month. You could try re positioning the sensor, post a photo ...

HTU21D Reliability

Hi, Is anyone having reliability problems with the humidity sensor on the HTU21D, I'm on my third at the moment. When the weather has been damp for a while they read 100%rh all the time. Replacement sensors cure the problem for a while. It may be that the sensors that I have been using are from a do...

I also did this test by disconnecting the rj11 connector and joining the two red and green cables to the ammeter. By manually moving the collector, the value changes sometimes, but not always. When I pull out the box and drop the water, the resistance value remains unchanged. The rain gauge may not...

Re: Show us your weather station!

I would think that the problem of high temps is due to the positioning of the sensor box, under a roof and on a wall, a fan will only circulate warm air from the wall/roof. Temperature sensors should really be placed about 1.5M above ground in open air over a grass surface, they need a flow of air b...

Re: read_temperature doesn't work

Looks like the Pi cannot see the 18B20 and will refuse to go any further.

Try running

Code: Select all

sudo i2cdetect
and see what that says

You can also try running

Code: Select all

sudo python HTU21D.py
to see if that sensor is working on the same board.

Post the results here.

I suspect that the housing used for the sensors has more of a bearing on the temperatures than the heating effect of the air sensor. The sensors are mounted on opposite sides of the board. I would suggest making a more effective radiation screen with adequate ventilation, there are numerous designs ...

First thing I would check is the sensor positioning, does the humidity sensor have a good air flow, is it in a shaded area, what is below the sensor, grass, concrete or what? For the rainfall try slowly dripping in some water and listen for the loud bucket clunks. Since I built my own station I atte...
