so at least i can now see that ntp service is active, but it does still not get the time

how do i tell system-timesyncd to get the time?

this box is going to be check internet speed every hour and send the data to a database, hence there is no need to write to the sd card Just leave it as it is normally since this box is going to stay powered 24x7 anyway. One of the side effects of making the root filesystem read only is that the Pi cannot store the time before it shuts down. So the time read from the root disk at startup gets further and further out of date, until it is out of the range that ntp will correct. You may need to run your three commands...

it could be that i installed something that then installed ntpd

and i used this script to make the pi read only: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/adafr ... only-fs.sh

and yes ntp was installed.... :-(

i think i did use apt

i did a google search to try and figure out why it was not updating

but at that point ntpd was installed allready

so i guess i have to uninstall it

sudo /etc/init.d/ntp stop
sudo ntpd -q -g

Buster lite does not update clock on boot

this is a first for me and for the life of me i cant figure why it does not update the clock on boot

at boot the date command returns:

hehe,

yep have been thinking about a router thing

at least that will work :-D

but i like the compactness of the usb dongles, but then again they still seem to be troublesome

of course on windows and mac they work like a charm :-(
