Re: Buying a Raspberry Pi in the US?

I got my model B from MCM and it was a great experience...quick ship..shipping costs stated at checkout....etc. I am craving a model A ...but from what I have heard about Allied...I am going to wait for MCM to stock them...even though Allied is only 3 hrs north of me. I won't play the mystery shippi...

Re: Pi not working

I have the same mini KB...just plug in the USB dongle to the Pi and switch on the mini KB on the edge in the upper left of the KB. You should see a solid green led if it is connected..and when you press keys a 2nd yellow led should blink. If it's not working...just unplug and replug the dongle (I ha...

Re: Can I put 6 volts on the 5 volt input?

Don't risk it. At the very least get a +5V linear voltage regulator and wire from the battery pack to the voltage regulator ..then out to the micro USB of the Pi. They are $2 at radio shack....you will lose some battery life as the VR will dissipate the extra energy by heating up...but it's much bet...

Re: Simple question, just want to make sure i dont blow up m

I don't *think* the amperage will be a problem. I have limited electrical expertise also...so maybe one of the electrical gurus can respond here...but my understanding is that it's the voltage that has to be right on the money..and the device(s) will only take whatever current they require. I am goi...

Re: Simple question, just want to make sure i dont blow up m

Related question: Wouldn't the easiest solution be to get a powered USB hub with a beefy PS (say 2.5 amps) and split out the outputs into microb USB for the Pi and whatever style connector the hub is using? This way you would be feeding a steady 5V through the Pi's fuse and also feeding the hub ...a...

Re: Memory on the Model A

Thanks for all the responses. I already have a Model B....going to pick up another board...just trying to decide on the Model. With the feedback here....I am guessing that 256 megs won't slow down most processes (the cpu being the bottleneck point)...so I will probably go with a Model A I wasn't try...

Memory on the Model A

I love the specs on the Model A...except for one...the RAM being half that of the model B I will be using my Pi's for tinkering and robotics applications....with usb wireless always...so the elimination of the RJ45 port is a no brainer to me....does anyone really use wired lan (aside from the pc clo...

Info about the foundation

I don't know if this has been asked before in the forums...but I was interested in knowing more about the foundation. How is it structured? How many salaried employees are there? What percentage of the profits from RPi sales go for charitable purposes? Are those charitable donations in the form of m...

Re: Pi built into keyboard / mouse combo?

That would be awesome...the first thing I thought about was putting one in a Coco 2 or 3 case. (I am from the states...it was sort of our version of the BBC micro I am guessing...had a rom pack slot...very little memory and ran extended basic. If you were really hardcore you could get a 5 1/4" flopp...

Re: Preloaded SD Cards

So many people buying preloaded cards. It's really not that hard to load an image on a card and get the pi booted....if I can do it (I have minimal linux experience and have been living in Bill Gates world for years)...anybody can do it. If you have a windows machine you need two pieces of software ...

Re: Inexpensive Battery Power for Pi

I agree about the linear regulator....a switching regulator is definitely a better way to go...minimal heat build up and minimal wasted energy. The reason I mentioned the $2 regulator is ...that's what I had readily available...and ...they are $2. I see now Digi-Key has 5 terminal adjustable switchi...

Inexpensive Battery Power for Pi

Ok, so there has been some discussion about running Pi off of a 4AA alkaline battery pack. That would work for a short while until the voltage drops out and your Pi gets unstable/shuts down. Obviously in robotics we need a stable fairly light weight mobile power source to mount the Pi on a robot bas...

Re: Squeezed Arm Puppy alpha4

Well this forum looks pretty dead...but I will give it a shot to see if anyone has any info. Downloaded the Alpha 4 Puppy image and changed the bootcode.bin to the raspian version so it would work on my 512mb Pi....Puppy booted up with no problem...yay! Sound doesn't work...boo! I am using an HDMI t...
