Re: Qt and window opacity on Raspbian Buster (Pi4) SOLVED

It seems a bit weird. xcompmgr is enabled and there is an instance running according to ps -ae |grep compmgr However Qt doesn't seem to pick this up and there is no transparency. I disabled it from running, and instead I found that if I edited /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart and added @xcompmgr...

Re: Qt and window opacity on Raspbian Buster (Pi4)

Oh what a simple solution! xcompmgr wasn't running. Once I started it the transparency worked perfectly. On other linux this step wasn't needed explicitly in the program, and it seemed to be invoked automatically.

Thank you for the prompt to try this.

Re: Qt and window opacity on Raspbian Buster (Pi4)

I am using the new cmake build currently under development in the sonic pi repro. It builds fine and I have a fully working Sonic Pi 3,2 dev apart from the transparency slider in the prefs window having no effect but not causing any errors either.

Qt and window opacity on Raspbian Buster (Pi4) SOLVED

I am building Sonic Pi with Qt GUI on a Pi4 running latest Raspbian Buster. Everything works fine apart from being able to vary the opacity of the main window. The same code builds and works on Mac, Windows PI and various Linux eg Ubuntu, but on the Pi4 the slider which control the opacity has no ef...

Re: External MIDI hardware and Sonic Pi

Sonic Pi does not work out of the box on Raspberry Pi anymore. It is a abandonware and should be removed from Raspbian ISO's Although it is true that the current version of Sonic Pi on Raspbian is not up to scratch and doesn't not support the full features available on other platforms, work is goin...

Broken connector clamp on Camera Board

The black retaining clip for the ribbon cable connector on my raspberry pi camera board is broken and has disappeared. Any suggestions on acquiring a replacement clip to clamp the cable into the connector? Or suggestions for another solution (not gluing the cable).

Re: External MIDI hardware and Sonic Pi

If you send me a private message on the in-thread.sonic-pi.net site or on twitter @rbnman I can email you a link to download a working "proper" Sonic Pi 3.1 which I have built from source on Buster. I agree with you that it is very frustrating that a couple of the most powerful features of Sonic Pi ...

Re: There is no sound from pi-theremin

I am afraid that this will currently not work with the version of Sonic Pi on raspbian Buster required for a pi4. The version supplied says that it is ver3.1 but was not built by Sam Aaron and unfortunately does not contain the code to support external OSC or MIDI signals and the theremin depends on...

Re: External MIDI hardware and Sonic Pi

Unfortunately the Sonic Pi version bundled with Raspbian Buster does not work with MIDi or External OSC messages. It was not produced by SaM Aaron and does not include code necessary to support these functions. At present the only way to get this going is to build it yourself from source. This can b...

Re: Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian Buster is NOT complete.

Not sure how we would document the difference, given there is not any real scheme for doing so. Any suggestions? Note that features often change when moving between platforms, so this isn't entirely unusual. It would be fairly easy to alter the splash screen which is a .png file to include informat...

Re: Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian Buster is NOT complete.

Perhaps you should discuss it with Sam Aaron directly, as I gather he was not consulted at all over the inclusion of this version. It's open source, he doesn't need to be: https://github.com/samaaron/sonic-pi/bl ... LICENSE.md True you can develop and publish your own versions of open source materi...

Re: Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian Buster is NOT complete.

Not necessarily. However it needs to be differentiated as a cut down version. There has already been one user running into problems because of this. See this thread on in-thread.sonic-pi.net to which I have added a comment https://in-thread.sonic-pi.net/t/akai-mpk-mini-not-listed-in-midi-io/2793 Per...

Re: Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian Buster is NOT complete.

That is not the point What I don't think is a good idea is to publish a version which can cause confusion, as it is a partial Sonic Pi 3.1, and does not include the features of that release. It contains (in the help file features which do NOT work and so should not be published as such. I am perfect...

Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian Buster is NOT complete.

I see that a version of Sonic Pi entitled version 3.1 has been added to Raspbian Buster. Unfortunately this is NOT the same as Raspbian 3.1 on other release platforms eg MacOS, Windows.(or built from source on linux or Raspberry Pi). This is because it does not contain some vital elements, namely th...

Re: sonic-pi 3.10 for buster available for testing.

Just tried the Sonic Pi 3.1 on Raspbian. Unfortunately it doesn't have the erlang support files or the osmid m2o and o2m files necessary for midi and OSC messaging to work. Consequently neither of them work See the source code on github for SP. for what needs to be added. You can see they are missin...

Interested to come across this. A sonic Pi controlled Glockenspiel

I have just completed a project to produce a Sonic Pi 3 controlled Glockenspiel. The Glockenspiel is controlled by means of some Lego hammers which are activatged by 5v solenoids. These are connected to the GPIO pins on a Raspberry Pi 3 via circuitry on a RasPiO ProHAT. A python script drives the so...

I can't find this anywhere. I gogg...

Sonic Pi plus microphone gives 4 part Frere Jaques round

Recently Sonic Pi 2.11 has been released (so far for Windows and Mac). With the addition of a cheap audio usb card (eg SABRENT card £6 from Amazon) and a cheap microphone (you can use one off a skype type headset) you can record a 4 part rendition of Frere Jaques being sung, using only one person. I...
