Re: RasPi on a big screen

All this assumes the root directory of buildroot is /buildroot Buildroot cross compiles Qt for you, but it does not "install" Qt into the host directory (in this case /buildroot/build/raspberrypi/host). So first time after building buildroot, you need to cd to /buildroot/build/raspberrypi/build/qt-4...

RasPi on a big screen

Here are our big screens at Greyville racecourse, Durban, South Africa. Both screens are made up of modules 960mm x 960mm in size, with a P12 pitch. The small-big screen is made up of 9 x 5 modules for a total size of 8,640mm x 4,800mm (about 340" x 189") http://imageshack.us/a/img405/2429/be04.jpg ...

Re: PCB and assembly

Another technique is to use a x-y plotter to draw the circuit directly onto the copper with a permanent marker. Ferric chloride doesn't eat the ink which can be cleaned off later with steel wool.

Re: Will the second batch os Rpi's be enough for everyone?

If I eventually get my one RasPi, and the proof of concept is successful,  I may order about 600 over a short period of time

10 + 11 sheesh my binary math sucks

Re: Farnell order moved out!

Do you think it's possible that Farnell and RS both want to use the same manufacturer that produced the first 10k, and maybe RS beat Farnell in placing the production order, which could cause Farnells' ship date to slip.

How about a range of teeshirts starting with "I woke up at 6am and all I got …"

… was 500 Server Error"

… was no email confirmation"

no trying to be snarky. I would pay for a RasPi 500 Server Error tee-shirt to commemorate the launch day.

Just remind the beanies that the donation is tax-deductible!

I'm not in the UK, so I don't know how tax-deductible a donation to a foreign charity will be.

Re: "Variable" Pricing

For me, in a corporate environment, it's easier to get 150 @ $36 past the beancounters, rather than 150 @ $35 + $150 donation.

Re: Programatically lock SD Card to hardware unit?

How about encrypting the initramfs/initrd/rootfs with the mac address. Along with a customized kernel to decrypt while it's being read/booted.

You would need to create a custom filesystem per RasPi.

Don't know how easy or effective this would be.

Re: Will there be a heads up about the launch?

I think that anybody who purchased a sticker should be sent a "store is open" e-mail 12 hours before the general mailing list gets their e-mail.

This would "reward" anybody who supported the sticker charity effort.

Re: Device Certification

Will it be worth the cost and effort for the Foundation to get FCC, CE, EMC, ETSI, RoHS, etc certification for the RasPi ?

According to wikipedia, for CE certification if there is minimal risk it can be self-certified.

I would have liked to start with 2, but I can settle for 1.

If development goes well the company I work for may order 150 or more for an in-house application.
