Re: audio eidting help

I'm working on audio separation for my PhD. We're getting there but not yet! The 5.1 angle could be worth exploring though. Generally music will be in the Left and Right channels, dialogue in the centre and effects in whatever channel is most appropriate. If you can get hold of the 5.1 files then st...

Pure Data is up and running on my RPi. Just waiting for the audio drivers to get sorted and we'll be away.

Re: Zoned audio/video

<t>Hi Michael,<br/> <br/> I can't see any reason why the Pi shouldn't be able to do this. I'd recommended attaching the sound system to the TV and sending the audio over HDMI as the audio out on the Pi will not be great quality (it's a 1bit PWM system with a filter - worse than CD quality).<br/> <br...

I agree with the OP. Although I do think these forums will survive. There's still lots of great discussion going on

Re: Raspberry Pi based Synthesizer

This looks really interesting!

Where do people see the trade off between number of voices and quality lying?

I'd be keen to get some decent physical models running but think that may cost a bit in terms of resources.

Re: Farnell offering exclusive development software?

The whole idea of vendor exclusive software conjures up images of the kind of bloatware Windows machines always used to ship with. I'll be buying and flashing my own SD card so will make an assessment of anything they offer on the basis of whether I need it or not.

There's not really a second batch. The RS and Farnell will be operating rolling production. I get the feeling they'll be running at full capacity for quite a while!

Re: Inaccuracies in the media?

As a general rule, journalists don't understand technology. Sure there are some great techbloggers around but the people who report technology for traditional media outlets aren't generally engineers.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi,

I'm Toby. An electronic engineer by training and an audio nut for as long as I can remember. Currently at the University of Surrey working on my PhD.

My interests center around signal processing for audio. I'll be interested to see what I can make the Pi do!

Sorry to post another username password question but pi/suse isn't getting me into the emulated device. I've read all these posts and am now a little confused.

For reference the log in screen reads...

@Method. There is no next batch. They've gone to rolling production. They'll be emailing you all when the initial storm has cleared a bit.

Let's remember again this is an education machine. The point is that you can mess around with it until it falls over. If something bad happens then re-flash the card and be done with it.

Please don't store all your treasured data on it.

Personally I think just kill the blog comments. If people have things to say let them come into the forums where there is more control. A lot of blog comments are pretty inane!

Re: High definition audio (really high)

Just to be the guy who corrects/clarifies the maths. Sample rate to bit rate is:

Sample rate*sample resolution*number of channels.

So CD quality is 44100*16*2

I'm assuming you'll want stereo through those AKG's
