Why not optimise for size?

Hello, mostly, the linux kernel have the option: CONFIG_OPTOMIZE_FOR_SIZE that's allow performance boost because it keep the kernel in cpu cache.

Why it's not done with raspberry pi? Performance lost with this hardware?

Re: I have lost 300€

Yes, I always use the last kernel. But very few user use the raspberry pi as gateway/routeur.
I have do the OS to have 0 hdd access (0 write, read in cache).

Voltage stable, I have test under tmpfs to have 0 SD card access. It's not SD card problem, it's purely software bug (infinity loop bug).

Re: Linux Kernel Mainlining Effort

A user point of view: I need the last kernel of linux to have the network low latency code, with raspberry pi I'm blocked (I have not time to port all drivers at each time). The usb controller have sever problem (crash know and say on the issue). Can benefit of professional programmer of the kernel....

Exactly, the zImage not work here!!! the Image or old way (mkimage/imagetool-uncompressed.py) work. Re: fastboot cmdline

I have use same config than the official kernel or debian kernel (zcat /proc/config.gz > .config), then with gzip.
I will try without, any other config with frequent fail to boot + display? If I have the display I can fix it my self.

Re: fastboot cmdline

It make 6s to boot. Well, my sd card is slow (class 4).
I'm trying do my own kernel (like on all my desktop), but lot of time, raspberry pi refuse to boot (ok down + color test on hdmi). Then I need progress very slowly and recompil with each new options into the kernel.

Re: fastboot cmdline

2.6.29 brings 'fastboot' kernel parameter:
http://lwn.net/Articles/314808/

I'm in wrong? I use it since lot of time.

In my case, the user space is done into less than a second.

Hello, I use "fastboot" into my command line to boost the boot time. But with the official kernel, it's not work with the raspberry pi. Somebody with serial can diag it?

Thanks.

Re: Model B with 128MB of memory?

But in my case, I use the raspberry pi as router/gateway. The console only. Each MB win is MB win. 4MB for some old graphic card is suffisant to display the console boot, and ask console login.
Then I thinks, 8MB is good to show the display just the console (without X).

Re: EFI rom

Are you sure for the EFI (I know for the bios)? Because ARM

ARM Joins Unified Extensible Firmware Interface Forum - ARM and coreboot + tianocore support some arm platform.

Then if it can't I will learn how boot on usb key.
