Re: Pi Camera and Scratch not working

PS: a quick review of latest V4L doesn't reveal anything that would/could indicate "valid frame ready". More of an issue when camera first turned on and first real image has to make it's way through buffering.

Re: Pi Camera and Scratch not working

Below are some of my last notes on the Camera Plugin when revising it for more general use (appears to be from 2010 but last work likely to be ~2012). I'm in FP-land atm and my limited mental capacity means I have to work mostly from memory :-) Note the comment re skipping frames and that in one tes...

Re: Scratch locks up? (when playing sound?)

@Paul: sound coming from Scratch is buffered and control past straight back to Scratch to maintain UI responsiveness. Meanwhile a writer-thread waits for new buffers and writes them out to the os/hw. That much is pretty generic. For the RPi I have used code from "/opt/vc/src/hello_pi/hello_audio" to...

Re: Part of blocks palette hidden

Ah ok, the categories region. You must be using a very low resolution? Are you sure the resolution cannot be increased? To get the same effect I have to resize the Scratch window to 150px wide. Pretty sure that a higher rez is possible even on old type tv's. Is there anyone else here with a similar ...

Re: Part of blocks palette hidden

Is the window maximised? If so can you increase the screen resolution? In any case there should be a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the blocks palette.

Re: Scratch sound instruments

Scratch instruments are implemented via Midi, which is an standard for communication between (digital) musical instruments. Commonly one of these will be a synthesizer that actually generates the sound. Usually the sound card on a desktop emulates a Midi-synth. Alternatively there could be a "soft-s...

Re: Error Attempting to Record Sound

I found a solution online by updating a shell script in Usr/Bin called Scratch
Do you have a link to that solution? Can you try running "/usr/bin/scratch" from the terminal then try recording and paste any terminal output here.

Yes :) You will need to figure out how to interface motors to the Pi but your plan looks a good starting point, good luck! Plenty of good info here: www.societyofrobots.com

Re: Scratch locks up? (when playing sound?)

Latency could be better but is passable (nothing I could do about it in the driver). Analogue output is bad. However HDMI is good and appears stable. This beats ALSA/PA which for me hung Scratch eventually. Hope this gives some parents a bit more mileage with those xmas Pi's ;) Source Code & Binary

Re: can you write network apps in Scratch

I'm not sure if you have a Scratch project in mind or simply want to display remote messages on the desktop. If the latter then one way would be via Python using Bottle to serve up the web page/s along with python-notify (simple example usage) for desktop notifications. If you want the messages for ...

Re: can you write network apps in Scratch

Depending on your needs, these might help:

Remote_Sensor_Connections
Remote_Sensors_Protocol

Fairly easy to interface with Python (to avoid mod'ing Scratch) then the world's your oyster :D

Re: Is Scratch really viable on Raspberry Pi?

@simplesi: I fully explain the situation in the post. If you want jpp's to load then compile your own VM or wait for an update via Debian if/when the situation is resolved. In this case it's not a bug per se that needs "fixing". The VM has for a long time included it's own jpg reader/writer for port...

jpg bug

First a word of caution if you are new to Linux: distro's such as Debian (from which Raspbian get it's packages) strive for stability and security. Once you start installing software from elsewhere you undermine that effort and, potentially, could end up with a less secure, less stable system. The V...

Re: Sticking keyboard Bug

Not on the rpi atm but I usually do something like: $ file `which scratch` /usr/bin/scratch: POSIX shell script text executable The output tells me which file is used and what type of file it is. As you now know there is no Scratch exe as such, but if you didn't know then the fact that a shell scrip...

Have you tried the "help" menu in Scratch? Also, try dragging blocks into other blocks, if it don't fit, it don't fit ;) Yet another way, load up some of the many example projects and see how they work.

Re: Deep Scratch # 1

It's in Wheezy-testing. You won't see it if you are only pulling packages from a "stable" repo. If you know what you are doing (and the implications) then add the repo, reload and it should appear in Synaptic. If not then it may be safer to just download the deb. See here for further info and deb li...
