Re: tip of day - root password

The point of encouraging use of sudo is to get people to think about what they are doing as root and try to shield unintentional consequences - being constantly logged in as root can cause complacency and allow one to forget the extended privileges enjoyed Any number of unintentional commands execut...

Re: Your daily head/desk

Agreed the review is dumb & negative. However, he does ask "Have any of you created anything cool with the Pi? Talk back and let me know. Post a link to the project too. I'd love to see it." Would love to see the foundation gather up the top 10/100/500 fab projects & take him at his word ! Or to mak...

no camera module - timelapse with usb webcam ?

Hi all,
As my camera module is still a few weeks away I was wondering - is it possibly to do the type of time-lapse photography shown on other posts using a webcam ? Not worried about power consumption s this will be fixed not portable
Cheers

Oh my, I really wished I read this post earlier, my partner ordered a pi camera from rs components as a surprise gift for me which was in stock (2 weeks ago). She didn't write down any reference number as she assumed it would be in a confirmation email which she never got. So now we cannot contact ...

iZettle ?

Has anyone signed up to use the iZettle yet (plug into a smartphone/android & take credit card payments) ? The website states " You will require a 3G, 4G or Wifi internet connection in order to use iZettle. ", but I can't see any reference to any Android devices which have just Wifi (ie not 3G or 4G...

Re: OS for a old pc similar to Raspberry Pi

  • good: find what you like to use on the pi then install the equivalent on the pc
  • better: find what you like to use on the pi then install something different on the PC and learn how to make them work together
  • best: find what you like to use on the pc, then port it to the pi :)

melting acoustic foam ?

I have an aged (15 yo) Sun server sitting in an airconditioned room, whirring away. Had to replace a fan last week and on opening the case found the acoustic(?) foam inside the case appeared to breaking down/melting in places and had deposited a blob of tar like substance onto some wires. I've new c...

However, this leads me to suspect that they are, in fact, using some sort of high-level machine-intelligence, heuristically-adaptive supercomputer to fine-tune several tactics in order to achieve their stated goal of blanketing the planet with orange stickers. Release of preboxed version ?

Although I'm dead keen to get my hands on a Pi to play with, there's no (imminent) light at the end of the tunnel regarding my RS order, so I was wondering when the Pi in a case, aka education release on the faq, might be available ?

The description on the RS Raspberry Pi page states
