Re: trouble with editing autostart to run command on bootup

Maybe your media is not ready when feh starts? As a test logout and back in instead of rebooting.

This works for me: (wallpapers as a slideshow)

Code: Select all

feh --quiet --fullscreen --borderless --hide-pointer --slideshow-delay 5 /usr/share/rpd-wallpaper/

Remove the " " from the lxterminal line.
Also lxterminal -e is not required.

Re: Web server not working externally

Hi folks, I have set up my Pi with a LAMP configuration, and on top of it I have installed wordpress. The website works great locally but I am having issues getting it to appear externally. I have forwarded port 80 and using port checking tools everything appears to be okay. I am using no-ip to run...

Re: RealVNC server in virtual mode - Enterprise license required?

AFAIK a license is not required when making connections within your local network.
after entering vncserver command the address to use is shown on the screen.
For example:

Code: Select all

Re: IBM ThinkPad Display connect to Raspberry Pi 3B+

As mentioned you need a controller board and power supply. If one exists for your screen it will likely cost more than a 2nd hand monitor. Do not assume a random connector or cable converter will work even if they do appear to be the same size and wire count. Doing so could result in destruction of ...

Thanks for the reply drgeoff. I unplugged the Pi4 yesterday (at the mains side) and fairly quickly repowered it. The Pi didn't start although the red led was on. For a few seconds my heart was in my mouth wondering if I'd killed it. Hence my question Likely capacitors in the power supply were not f...

Re: Can't change permissions on external drive

Hi, I'm trying to set up Plex on a Pi3 - its gone ok so far but when I try to add a library, Plex can't see the contents of my external drive. I've tried... sudo chmod -R 777 /media/pi/ But I'm getting an error message saying 'Operation not permitted'. How do I fix this? How is the drive formatted?...

Re: Raspbian w/ Pi 4 does not mount USB drives without HDMI connected

Use sudo raspi-config to set a forced screen resolution. (Choose anything other than monitor default). Edit: The reason is that by default (RPi4), if no screen is connected at boot then a display device is not created. Without a display device the GUI desktop does not start so any program that requi...

Re: Multiple desktops in current Raspbian GUI?

Ha! At first I thought Buster had 'busted' multiple desktops because although I could see that I had 4 desktops when I ran obconf -> Desktops (either from a terminal or after adding it to preferences menu via menu editor) there was no pager in the taskbar and trying to move a window to another desk...

Re: Vnc server (v2.5) error raspbian buster : unable to start vncserver

In case anyone wants to go this route... I have an HDMI dummy plug that makes the OS think a monitor is attached. This works perfectly with VNC (even after this update). No virtual mode needed. It cost $6, requires no drivers or setup or anything. Nice to know but you can simply use sudo raspi-conf...

Re: Vnc server (v2.5) error raspbian buster : unable to start vncserver

Another option is to use RealVNC in service mode instead of virtual mode. Service mode is not affected by the problem of the virtual mode, so no downgrading needed. Note that service mode requires boot to desktop and VNC must be enabled in raspi-config. Also service mode will mirror the actual local...

Re: Open file on startup

If you are booting to desktop GUI then you can use autostart.
Open with nano editor:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart
Add your command to what's there:
[CTRL] x then y to save and exit.

Re: GUI command on SSH doesn't work on Buster LIte

Raspbian lite does not have GUI so programs that require a GUI won't run.
You need to either install a GUI to Raspbian lite or use the full GUI version.
