I just loaded Buster on a test system and Mathematica no longer appears in the software list. Has something changed with the licensing? This would be enough to stick with Stretch!
Per the blog Mathematica is not yet compatible with Buster but will be added later when it gets fixed.

currently still on jessie. do i have to upgrade to stretch? i still get updates from jessie repos. maybe no more security updates then?

my current system config is running fine right now.

thanks
You don't have to.
At this point I would wait for 'Buster'.
Be prepared to do a fresh install....

I already have setup a new password for the Raspi but I did not change Username pi .
The password for user pi and the root password are 2 different things.
As Mr Engman said there is no need to create the root password. Just use sudo su.

Re: Original Model B price?

Hello guys, I heard from somewhere sometime ago that the Original Raspberry Pi Model B (The one with no mounting holes) is now worth quite a lot in 2019. Is this true as the Pi is discontinued? If so how much would the resale be? Edit: Found one on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Raspberry-Pi-Mode...

Welcome to the Raspberry Pi forums. I used a command and installed pac-man  and it didn't launch  sudo apt-get install pacman That's not surprising. For most applications launching is a separate operation to installation. Does your new package show up in the Raspbian Desktop drop-down m...

Re: Power on / shutdown RPI time or network

To turn the RPi back on you will need external hardware such as another RPi or a programmable appliance timer etc.
If using a timer you would set off time to 09:15 (after safe shutdown) then restore power at 23:00.

Not clear what you want to do.
If you want to display different images on each display then you will need one RPi per display.

Possible bad or inadequate power supply and/or USB power cable.
The red power LED should be on constantly, if not then there is a power issue.

I don't believe you can buy just the clip without obtaining the entire connector.
I am not sure the clip can be removed from a new connector without breaking it? If not you would have to unsolder the connector and solder on a new one.

Re: how to turn screen saver off

xscreensaver works but is a 40MB download and installs a background process.

Instead you can add these commands to autostart:

Code: Select all

xset s off
xset -dpms

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart

Re: how to update PHP from 5 to 7

The Raspbian Stretch repository contains PHP7.0 and not PHP5.
Also Apache 2.4.25 not 2.4.24
Not sure why you have older versions? Did you upgrade from Jessie to Stretch? Or did you start from a fresh download of Stretch?

Re: Need information

Once the OS is installed you can't use a simple copy command. I would suggest to attach a USB SD cardreader to the RPi and use the included SD card copier utility in [Menu] --> [Accessories]. You can have as many SD cards as you like.... No problem as ALL OS files and data are stored in the SD card ...

You cannot measure resistance in any powered circuit with an Ohm meter. Measuring resistance of a GPIO (powered or not) will not give any meaningful information. There is no Android software (apps) that will work on a RPi.
What software do you want to use on your RPi?

Verify that your ISP is not using CGNAT. (Put you behind a local router at the ISP). Check the Internet IP shown in you routers status page. If this address is in a private IP range such as 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x, or 172.16-31.x.x then it will be impossible to port forward or run any type of server...
