Re: Retroarch framerate shows 60fps during slowdowns

The framerate debug text in RetroArch only updates every couple of seconds (technically every 256 frames) and gives an average framerate since the previous update. It is not instantaneous.

Re: Combine OpenVG with OpenGLES2

It's possible, but you have to switch EGL contexts when you want to swap between OpenVG and GLES. I've found if you do it only once a frame or so the overhead of the context switch isn't that bad, but if you do it more you might hit performance issues. There might also be issues with the two context...

Re: Popping noise on analog output

I believe retroarch uses alsathread for sound: https://github.com/Themaister/RetroArch/blob/master/audio/alsathread.c There are problems with the sound as stated in the wiki: https://github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Sound-Issues Just to confirm, I went back to https://github.com/Hexxeh/rp...

Re: Popping noise on analog output

You can just compile the test core in the RetroArch source directory (libretro-test) and run that instead. Just give it any file in place of a ROM, it should just run anyway.

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

Hi all, I've got a couple of problems that I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with. 1) When I start a game, I get the following warning: "RetroArch[WARN] :: [GL] : Stock GLSL shaders will be used". However, the game does then load as expected. 2) When I'm in a game, the up and down keys do...

Re: If it runs Quake..why not SNES?

Adding GLES support will not help SNES emulation, SNES emulation is just too intense for the rpi's relatively weak CPU. Frameskipping can help but then you get a stuttering game which a lot of people (myself included) can't stand. Please let me politely dissent. SNES emulation can be divided in 3 p...

Re: RetroArch Emulator Frontend

The alsathread branch got merged, and no longer exists. To use alsathreads, just use the master branch and either have no audio driver defined (it'll use it by default on the Pi) or define it in retroarch.cfg with "audio_driver = alsathread".

Hi, may be a daft suggestion, but is it possible to temporarily UNDER-clock the Pi, then run SNES emulator at FULL speed in order to prevent the issues present? I'm not sure how making the RPi slower will help it with not being fast enough to run the emulator full speed. :P The real issue is the RP...

Hi, I checked the branch of my clone is the same as yours. You can run a SNES game without sound problems (crackling) ? I use ALSA and my distro is updated. With this updated core, it does not fix all problems with the audio core, since most of those are because the game is not running at fullspeed...

That appears to use OpenGL the Pi has no support for that. Actually it appears to have a couple different renderers, including one for SDL. Also, depending on how well its abstracted, it should be possible to write an GLES renderer for it. EDIT: It appears the SDL renderer uses GL for the textures ...

Either build it yourself from the git repository or grab a binary somebody else compiled. We don't have a Debian .deb package for it, so any way that works is fine.

The alsathread branch has been updated, and might get pulled into the master branch soon. The latest version has greatly increase audio quality on my end, and you won't get those poll() errors anymore (since we no longer poll for audio).

Also if you have PulseAudio make sure you either disable it or preferebly remove it altogether. You could also specify the hardware audio device in retroarch.cfg (audio_device = "hw:0")

It's also worth pointing out the ACTUAL SNES didn't always manage an optimal frame rate. Pretty much any game that used the hardware expansion pins was guaranteed to dip a little bit. Remember Megaman X3, with the pretty particle contrail on the charged shots? Anyhow, this is pretty impressive. It ...

That's just the resolution of the emulator frame; it is always stretched to your screen's resolution. What memory split are you using? With the latest GL changes, the amount of memory RetroArch uses has gone up, and you may need to change gpu_mem=128 in /boot/config.txt. Alternatively, you can go b...
