It happens... No apology needed, but thanks anyway. The emphasis was for the benefit of the enquirer: sorry in return if you thought I was sniping at you.

Re: Sent messages from arduino to RPI

Same disclaimer as before. If I were you I would read the documentation for Wire in the Wiring library for the Arduino to see what arguments the write method takes. In Oscar Laing's example it just uses an integer. It seems that in your test case it sends an integer that represents the character. Pe...

Re: Sent messages from arduino to RPI

You say that you are able to transfer data via I2C using the tutorial you reference. But you do not seem to be using that method of transferring data in the sample code you posted. If you have a method that works, why not use it? [Disclaimer: I've never done what you are attempting, I've just glance...

It sounds as though that firewall is working well! To get detailed advice on how to reconfigure it for your needs might it be helpful to say what firewall software you installed?

Apologies - managed to create enough space by deleting the other distros before preparing the SD card. I'm doubly sorry because in the meantime I bought a couple of 8 GByte SD cards. Still I'm sure they will be useful eventually. It's a point for other beginners though - the instructions do say a 4...

8 buttons + 8 LEDs = 16 connections.

There seem to be 17 programmable gpio pins on the 'P1' expansion header on the RPi, so that sounds do-able.

Is there a specific part of your planned project that you or the students need help with?

Yes. You need to press 3 or 4 on the NOOBS system to choose analog PAL or analog NTSC video modes. And how would I do this? Seriously?
