Re: Do I HAVE to use LibreOffice?

Did you install LibreOffice from the "app store" (package manager) ? Using package management makes installing software much safer and convenient, and also takes the Pis ARM CPU into account. The package manager on Raspbian is called APT. Incidentally, Ubuntu uses the same system because it is a des...

Re: Kernel switcher... kernel?

The Raspberry Pi does not support UEFI out-of-the-box. What people (or companies like Microsoft and SuSE) have been doing is to replace the file kernel.img with an (U)EFI implementation (either TianoCore or uboot + EFI emulation patches). It seems to work well enough. Obviously, this adds another st...

Re: Raspberry As Audio Output Device

The Raspberry Pi can output audio easily over 3.5mm line-level jack and HDMI. If you want audiophile quality though, you should avoid the default analog output.

Nein. Es ist eher, dass standardkonforme Netzteile anderer Hersteller nicht funktionieren.

Re: RPi2 v1.1 vs RPi2 v1.2 Differences

The Raspberry Pi 2B v1.1 uses a BCM2836 System-on-a-Chip (ARM Cortex-A7/ARMv7). The Raspberry Pi 2B v1.2 uses a BCM2837 System-on-a-Chip (ARM Cortex-A53/ ARMv8-A). Thanks to Raspbian, the difference is made irrelevant in practice. Also the Raspberry Pi2 version 1.2 was underclocked in comparison to ...

Re: How would I only boot into one program and not a full blown OS

The startup manager on Raspbian is called systemd. You probably want to write a "systemd unit" file to start your program in a fast yet controlled manner (after network is up etc.)

The name and model number of the logger would be interesting, along with a description of the cable(s) used to connect it to laptops/PCs.

Re: Is Rasbpian legal in the USA?

The Raspberry Pi includes a h.264 hardware codec, with appropriate license from MPEG-LA included in the base price. Users can buy additional licenses for MPEG2 and/or VC-1 via a dedicated webshop run by Raspberry Pi. Raspbian is based on Debian, which has followed (still follows ?) a relatively cons...

Re: How do I run a Raspbian virtual desktop inside Raspbian?

I would rather not use QEMU, mainly because it is meant to simulate non-native machines and CPU architectures. Since I do not wish to simulate a entirely different machine, I see no reason to use QEMU. Please understand the difference between QEMUs TCG "accelerator" and QEMU with KVM acceleration. ...

Re: Can I have a Raspbian virtual machine on Raspbian?

QEMU supports KVM acceleration. This way, you can run Raspbian or Windows 10 Pro (AARCH64) "inside" Gentoo.

For perfomance reasons, you should only try it on the Raspberry Model 3B+. Search for the posts of forum member "sakaki".

Use "tmux" or "screen". Start tmux or screen, and then start your mining software inside the new session. You can now "detach" from this screen/tmux session and "reattach" at any later time. Even if your Internet connection gets lost, the session will continue to run uninterrupted allowing you to ma...

If you do not know any programming language, Python is a good start. If you actually are fluent in any other programming language, why don't you use it on the Pi ? Chances are it works already.

The most advanced Raspberry/Pseudoduino project i remember is this one: https://github.com/me-no-dev/RasPiArduino BUT it does NOT run on bare metal - it runs on top of Linux ! I believe what you want is probably impossible without writing a "Raspberry Pseudoduino" "standard library" from scratch. Ho...

The work on the "proper" DRM/Mesa3D stack was started in 2014 - that means accelerated desktop environments were dysfunctional for quite some time and are just now starting to work out-of-the-box. Just choose "Enable/Disable experimental desktop GL driver" in raspi-config. Any accelerated desktop en...
