Re: (solved - bad NOOBS sd) Initial NOOBS run on 3B+ produces blank screen

Fair comment - perhaps I should have done more reading.
I'm coming back to the Pi after 4 years away so things have changed (eg NOOBS & Etcher).
I just jumped straight in !

Re: (solved - bad NOOBS sd) Initial NOOBS run on 3B+ produces blank screen

Yes - that was what I was attempting. (Flash NOOBS using Etcher) The Installation Page (https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/installation/installing-images/) gives you the option of NOOBS and Raspian. Then tells you to use Etcher - which apparently has never worked with NOOBS. see Etcher: Inval...

Re: Initial NOOBS run on 3B+ produces blank screen

Thanks for response. Problem identified. It was the NOOBS SD card. The same problem occurred when I tried the card on two older Pis - similar results. Downloaded latest NOOBS and Raspian from RPi site. Created Raspian SD with Etcher ( 1st time used - very impressed) NOOBS failed "Error opening image...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

What do you have the Encryption set to on the viewer (it's underneath where you enter the address). It won't work if you have this set to always on or maximum, since that won't let it use unencrypted connections. Have tried all 5 options : 'Let VNC Server choose' 'Always Maximum' 'Always On' 'Prefe...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

Thanks Sconemad - I changed config.txt and it worked fine at 1024x768. I then tried to be clever and disable encryption as suggested on the page (More - Options - Expert Encryption - AlwaysOff) Now the connection fails - 'VNC has no security types configured - .. check VNC server configuration and t...

Developing picamera away from the Pi

I'm developing some software for my new Pi Camera - which is working fine from the CLI. I like to use an IDE (Wing) to develop python apps and would like to build the basic software on that and then transfer to the rpi for 'real' testing. I tried to install picamera_1.0 on my Intel machine & it woul...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Thanks for your comments I've re-attached the RPi to my home network (with address 192.168.0.9) and it was able to update images OK. I'll try again on-site later today. Are there any diagnostics I could look at? Yes, you can find log messages on the 'system info' tab in the web interface. If you wa...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Strange Problem after installation - cannot upload images. Last week I installed my original 256MB model B at my golf club to display messages and images on the TV in the clubroom. Worked fine (as 192.168.1.50:8080). I had pre-set some web pages and images. I demonstrated the maintenance. The follo...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Thanks for your help The format I use in images is "JPG". You need "MP4" for videos and whatever (flash apart? no idea) for web content. The easiest way to use images is to use a dropbox (or similar service) account. By putting an image to the Dropbox Public folder and right-clicking on a mac, you g...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

This is a very noobie request from someone who ought to know the answer. I have installed screenly and hope to use it for an information system at my golf club. I have got web pages displayed fine but am at a loss on the url format needed to display images. Ideally I would like to hold images (and w...
