Re: Dead Pi

I have a semi dead Pi, that someone might find useful for display mockups, testing hardware mating or has a project where Ethernet and USB is not important. It has the symptoms of units that do not have a working X1 crystal. With a known good power supply, mouse, keyboard and SD card loaded with deb...

Re: Raspberry Pi Won't Boot, Red Power Light Only

Maybe slightly off topic, but on point in a preventative maintenance kind of way. Does anyone know if switching the write protect switch on an SD card actually blocks changes by hardware, or if the Pi must read the switch and then behave like a good citizen by not writing to it? The reason I ask, is...

That's great news! I appreciate you sharing your bravery. I might just try that on my "Dad's" Pi, if the freezer shock treatment fails.

Re: So frusterating! Won't boot past Rasberry Logo

Just handeling it in an ordinary way... much more gentle than a kid in a classroom would handle it. You may also want to suspect your cables, if you haven't swapped them out. I have had bad video cables do strange things. The wires inside may be getting moved more than components on the board, but ...

...although sometimes there is no video at all, and just a red light. That is the same effect I get with no card installed at all. Maybe a flakey SD card solder joint? I guess if you are able to read them when plugged into the PC they aren't really being destroyed. It may just be a coincidence as t...

That does look like a hardware problem. I think you are being pretty methodical with your testing. Maybe you can come up with a crutch that will make it work to some degree. We can hope.

Have you tried ... Sorry I must have a blind spot. I only saw part of your post. Am I reading this correct? It booted once fine, and then on the second boot it stopped at the logo? Don't know if this is worth trying or not, but for grins I tried flipping on the write protect switch on my debian squ...

Have you tried not plugging in any USB devices, using a different power supply, compared your SD card to the list of known working or known not working types?

Suggestion for Stickys

Hi guys, I'm a noob to Raspbian, and from that perspective, I would like to make a suggestion: How about a Sticky Topic or Post that would stay at the top of the Raspbian forum for noobs? Only being an expert at being a first time visitor noob, I only have one suggestion as to what should be in it. ...

Re: NO usb device works

Yes, I think you're right, my 2 doubles 1A usb chargers are more probably two 2x0.5 usb chargers. My thought is that unless you have a really sophisticated charger/adaptor, you have a 1 Amp charger that has two ports. I doubt they bother to current limit each port to 500mA. But when in doubt change...

I'm trying the fridge trick first, ... I can confirm that the fridge trick did not work for me, but it was worth a shot. I'm glad that I have access to two units with at least one working. I would have wasted a lot more time thinking there was something wrong with my configuration. (I did for sever...

Re: NO usb device works

I have the same symptom on one of the two Rpi's that I have access to. We'll call the problem Rpi my Dad's ;) and the working one mine. Using the same SD card, with Debian Squeeze, power supply, Ethernet cable and USB hub to ensure that the keyboard and mice weren't drawing too much power, Dad's Rpi...

<t>Can you be more specific about would not work?  Were these random power supplies lying around?  Do you have a cell phone or other device that you can plug them into to see if they work there.  Sounds unlikely that all three would be bad, unless you have plugged all three into the same device that...

Didn't you read the FAQ?  Class 10 SD cards are flakey.  Could I get you to redesign it for me with mounting holes in each corner?

Re: self downloading an sd-card image from a server and writing it to new card

<t>I'm not saying this is not a worthwhile proposal, but for a number of reasons, using a SD card reader/writer seems more practical. USB - SD reader writers are very inexpensive, cheaper than the SD cards themselves. For example here is one for $4 and I didn't look very hard. IOGear Reader <br/> <b...

Liz,

New search works great!. Thanks.

I don't suppose there is also an easy way to suppress the forum search and have the custom google search on all the forum pages?
