Re: Camera Interface Specs

James, When I said “Foundation isn’t releasing the firmware to take CSI input “past” the camera tuning ISP and the information that you would need to do this yourself is Broadcom proprietary” I was definitely over simplifying. What I really want to say is all firmware necessary to interface an HDMI ...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

Audivea,

How are you handling the issue that the Foundation isn’t releasing the firmware to take CSI input “past” the camera tuning ISP and the information that you would need to do this yourself is Broadcom proprietary?

James wrote: "I don't know if the Rasb Pi is the right platform for my customer" Here is what I do know. Re: Camera Interface Specs

James, For months I had asked you if you start with video that is already tuned, can you bypass the ISP and go straight into the H.264 encoder and for months you said no, you would have to write a unique camera profile that is "tuned" for tuned video. Today, you tell me RGB888 just bypasses the ISP!...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

James and Gordon, When you use the HDMI input board, are you using the same camera profile as you use with the Foundation camera or a different camera profile? It is good to know the code has been done. My question is this code available to any Pi user or is it Foundation proprietary? Please see Gor...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

James and Gordon, Could you please reply to my questions? If the Foundation is going to manufacture an HDMI input board, then I certainly understand that you want to keep as much information proprietary as you can. But if the Foundation is not going to manufacture the HDMI input board, then it is in...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

James, A lot has changed since I last read this thread. So now I have some new questions: 1. Earlier in this thread, you had stated that part of the problem of supporting an HDMI input board was that the video input processor between the CSI input and the H.264 encoder is designed for a CCD camera t...

Re: My Quadcopter with Raspberry Pi Camera

BTW, I once read somewhere on the MikroKopter forum (don’t ask me to find it) that in Quad flights, some camera’s anti shake algorithms actually makes the video worse. The anti shake algorithms are designed for slow movement, like your not holding a camera perfectly still. But these algorithms do mo...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

Has anybody looked at this I.C.? Does anyone have an opinion as to the usefulness of this I.C. as the basis of a universal video input board for the Pi?

Re: Camera Interface Specs

The only reason I made reference to HDMI is to find a standard HD video interface that most people could use. Like the old days of SD video, you could plug most video source devices into most video destination devices using composite video on an RCA connector. Great quality, no. Anything works with ...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

I thank you for the vote of confidence. But this is a little like going around the block to get across the street. I would basically be taking an already “tuned” video source and intentionally detuning it exactly right so that it behaved like the unturned output of the foundation camera just so the ...

Re: My Quadcopter with Raspberry Pi Camera

This is why I was asking specifically about the H.264 parameters you are using. I don’t know how to relate the command line you posted above to the exact H.264 parameters. Some parameters tell H.264 to interpolate. In other words, it only sends a few actual frames per second and creates the other fr...

Re: Camera Interface Specs

If it turns out that the Pi camera is not a good camera for book page scanning, then this would be another application for a universal video input. Then someone could choose a camera that is optimized for book page scanning and use the Pi for compression. Just like today’s home page article that peo...

What is the trick to downloading your video file without the site trying to download new XP drivers?

Re: My Quadcopter with Raspberry Pi Camera

Three quick things: 1. In audio work, the $20 word is “tandem coder artifacts”. That’s when you compress an audio file with a “perceptual” coder, expand the file back to PCM and then compress it again with a different perceptual coder. The results are never good. 2. What advice for “big dummies” do ...

How much compression were you using? Am I correct that you recorded this to the SD card on the Pi board?

Re: Project suggestion - stream Living Room TV

If you’re going to use a USB video capture device that compresses the video, then what is the purpose of the Pi? The Pi must have an excellent implementation of the H.264 compression algorithm. The fact that Samsung chose the Broadcom H.264 implementation over their own H.264 implementation for thei...

Re: Project suggestion - stream Living Room TV

USB isn't fast enough for uncompressed Video (like HDMI). This was discussed near the end of the extended post that I refered to. And you need access to proprietary information to use the CSI2 input (only input fast enough for uncompressed video). So the Foundation would need to be involved. Hardwar...

All along you have been saying that there is nobody to do the job. The information necessary to to the job is proprietary so no one on the outside can do the job and any body who has access to the necessary information is too busy to do the job. But you do have e-mail access. And I'm certain that there are people at the Foundation and / or Broadcom who would answer your e-mails who wouldn't answer mine. Just send them the link to this thread, ask them to read it.
