yes and no,

you can do it now anyway after a fashion

copy the contents of the main partition to that one on your ssd
and change the cmdline.txt file to change the root fs to be that partition [use UUID of the partition]
and when you reboot then the main os will be off the ssd

raspberry PIs are not 5V tolerant
so don't send 5V anywhere

switch off all power to the board when it gets switched off hten just power up the main 5V usb connector and it will start up

then put a files called ssh on the boot partition
and stuff it in the PI and boot it
then see if you can ssh into it

can you sudo on that machine if so you can change the password with
sudo passwd -u pi
