Re: Would it be wise to use the pi as a server for my site?

Provided it's nothing too bloated it should be fine, I've been running my website for several months from a Pi (using nginx + PHP fastcgi) and my home broadband connection. The limiting factor seems to be my upload speed, I shifted large images and larger content on the front page to be hosted with...

Would it be wise to use the pi as a server for my site?

I'd like to use the Raspberry pi as the main server for my own personal blog, but I'm wondering if that's reasonable. What kind of traffic do you think would bee too much for it? Also, have you heard of any projects where people are trying to have multiple pi's work together to do some similar kind ...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

Okay, now I'm a little confused. I was talking on a separate forum with people about my struggles using the Pi to learn linux, python programming and hardware. But almost unanimously they all believe that the Pi is not at all for beginners. It's not for people who don't know linux. It's not for peop...

Re: "Beginners" put off...

To begin, I want to say that I was going to start a topic similar to this, but luckily I looked around first. I read the first maybe 10 to 12 posts before I decided I'd add my own input, so sorry if I repeat some things. It seems people want a detailed explanation of the turn-offs a beginner might f...

Re: Full Pi Computer Case

What tools do you have? Those aluminium cases like I think you are referring to are quite thin. A drill and a junior hacksaw would be sufficient. There's always papier-mâché, maybe built over a wood and wire framework for strength. Maybe finish it off with a couple of layers of fibreglass. Really? ...

Re: Gameboy Type System

Just an update. I've still be looking around, and I found a cool external power supply that should be able to give juice to the pi and pretty much any other accessories you can throw on it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054U6CEE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ There are more l...

Full Pi Computer Case

So I'd like to make either a mini car-computer out of the Pi, or just turn it into a portable game console, but I've been struggling to think of ways to get it, a screen, and a power supply into a case. I guess if I had access to a CNC or some machine shop, I could just make my own custom case, but ...

Re: Modifying a 3.5" car display for USB power.

Just for clarification, what is the name of that USB power source you've got the screen plugged into in the final image? I'm interested in some power sources to power a little portable pi computer.

Thanks.

Re: The projects list. Look here for some ideas.

I'd like to set up an in-car computer for my mom, with a screen on the dashboard and a simple program that she can go into which would show a full HD video feed of the rearview at any point.

Re: Can the Pi run Frets on Fire? What about a SingStar clon

I believe the pi does have openGL, but it isn't accelerated by the GPU, so your CPU would probably lock up.

Re: Gameboy Type System

I've been thinking about doing an extremely similar project, except I wanted to have it boot into an emulator menu where you could select from a list of emulators for many different systems and then choose your ROM. A friend of mine pointed out a few holes in the idea, though, so I think you've got ...

Re: Attrix Lapdock Keyboard and mouse problem!

Is there any way you can just test a phone that's actually supposed to work on it? Maybe one of your friends have the phone? It'd be better to see if it does what it's supposed to before you see if it does what you want it to. Might be a bad unit.

Basic questions about doing graphics on the Pi

I've been looking around, and it's hard to quite understand exactly what I should expect of the Pi in terms of graphics programming. On the wiki (http://elinux.org/RPi_VideoCore_APIs) I see that it says I can write code in OpenGL and OpenGL ES. Is that true, or am I misreading it? Also, probably mos...

Re: Games?

On a related note, it'd be nice to gauge the interest of the community in playing some small (free) indie games written specifically for the Pi. As a hobbyist game programmer I'd be interested in writing some stuff, be it a 2D RPG, Action Platformer, or even some more basic stuff you'd use as a time...

Re: Game Programming Questions

First of all, thanks a lot for such a helpful response. So here's a link the forum post, and here's the exact post by the OP. I do suspect now, reading it again, that what he meant was that DexOS doesn't support more than 10 images, and it wasn't some issue with the Pi itself. Also, below is the spe...

Portable "Console" - Anyone Working on One?

I've seen a few posts around about portable Pi's, and I've seen some pictures. Checking in the Screens subforum, you'll see that most people are going with car rear-view monitors as little screens, and I've seen some people use what looks like a little phone qwerty keyboard for input. The idea almos...

Game Programming Questions

Hey guys, I've just ordered a Raspberry Pi, and I have a few questions after reading around on the forums a bit. I'd love it if you could address a few: (My background is about a year and a half of C++ and a few personal projects I've coded myself.) 1. I saw on another thread about Qt (a nokia C++ G...
