Re: What's the simple and safe way to do a "shutdown" button?

Try this:
It's a tutorial I wrote a while back that lets you shutdown a Raspberry Pi with a paperclip shorting across the last two GPIO pins on the right (with the pins at the top left):
https://www.recantha.co.uk/blog/?p=13999

Just wire up a button if you don't want to use the paper clip :-)

Re: Pi 4 + netbook or just get a pi-top?

pi-top laptop v2 (which they've clumsily renamed pi-top[3] is not compatible with the Pi 4 - it just doesn't connect properly because of the change of HDMI port. However, pi-top[4] is on Kickstarter today at 4pm (BST) which looks like it has a screen/keyboard solution for the Pi.

3D printer and Raspberry Pi power control

Hi all, Over on a Facebook group, we've been having a discussion about controlling power to a 3D printer and a Raspberry Pi from a common source. Rather than figure out some way of using a buck converter to power the Pi *from* the printer, my preferred solution is to do it from the mains in some way...

Alternatively, you could go back to the place where you got the programming examples from (https://camjam.me/?page_id=1035#worksheets) - there are several examples of using both SSH and a PS3-alike controller on there.

Re: A new level of seasickness

I was trying not to comment negatively when I saw the page initially, so I've had a think about it. Take this criticism for what it is: a design and implementation expert with a big interest in the Pi looking at it from his point of view. Firstly, Epoc's comment: The banner on top of page uses 2 pic...

Re: We're looking at introducing more swag - what would you like to see?

Hi Liz :-) +1 for baseball caps, lovely idea. Still love the current t-shirts with the big logo on the front - they're simple, they just work and one does get recognised as a fan on an alarming basis! Still quite like the idea of cufflinks, but that's a little niche for the tooling required. Water b...

Hi there. If you just want a display and a case, I can suggest: https://thepihut.com/collections/raspberry-pi-cases/products/raspberry-pi-official-7-touchscreen-case for the case and then get an official touchscreen display: https://www.modmypi.com/pis-and-peripherals-1139/raspberry-pi-7-touchscreen...

Re: Robot Navigation - Mapping or Map Reading

Hi. I'm one of the Pi Wars organisers. We do indeed reveal the design of the maze in advance. There's several ways of completing it: 1/ Ultrasonics on multiple sides of the robot to detect the walls. 2/ Pre-encoding the robot with a route with distances and angles. 3/ Add up to 6 'targets' such as Q...

Depends which case. Official Raspberry Pi case fits perfectly. PiBow doesn't, however, and they've launched a new version.

That's all true. However, most people find the Pi's performance to be good enough in that respect. I was suggesting improvements to your approach rather than a wholesale change.

Hi So... I've had a go, but I get no response when clicking on the UI buttons. Flask on the command line doesn't report any pages being hit, so I guess that's a no-go, really. Some things I recommend: At the moment, you are reloading the whole page when you click on the controls. This is overkill - ...

Re: Odd Camjam engine behaviour

Hi again. So, two things to do: 1. Try it with 4 x 1.5V AA batteries rather than the rechargeables, just in case it _is_ that, but I doubt it because we know that others have used rechargeables without a problem. 2. Can you take all your code and upload it to Github so I can see it completely and cl...

Hi. Mike here from CamJam. If the script from the worksheets works correctly then there's nothing wrong with the hardware. There must be, therefore, something at issue with your software. Taking a look at the software below, a few things come to mind: First of all, I have no idea what this 'motor' l...

Wow. 3 pages of discussion as to whether a SQL "DELETE FROM" or "UPDATE" command is able to be used. The simple answer is, of course Yes. You go into the database, do a bit of simple querying and then delete the data. Should be a 20 minute job, if that. The law change with regards to data removal wo...

Re: Why no Pi Zero with full sized connections?

I'm a bit curious about this one. I've been doing some math, comparing the Pi Zero to the Pi 3, and it seems that after you buy all of the adapters, hubs and such you need for many projects, a Pi 3 is just about the same end cost but a lot more convenient and capable. My question, why isn't there a...

There's CamJam EduKit 3, which is as-cheap-as-possible, here:

Contact The Pi Hut if you want to buy in bulk as he'll need to work out shipping for a large shipment.

Have you used their online support ticket system? If you haven't, I suggest you do. Most online sales companies nowadays respond quicker to these ticketing systems than they do to phone calls anyway. In any case, you've tried to get in contact with a 9-5pm company over a weekend, I'm not surprised y...
