Re: system for controlling and monitoring device

Hi, Depend of what you want to do. If you want full temp history then yes, you may need a database, or a least a "log file". If you just need to set a temperature. Database seems a bit overkilled... since you'll be writing only several values in it. You would rather go for a single file (txt, JSON, ...

Re: Security camera using Motion

Hi Since you are streaming data straigh to your public interface, you have NO security at all. You can use HTTPS instead of HTTP, that will avoid people to capture traffic from you watching to your camera, but they just need to connect themselves to the camera to see the video. I once used motion on...

Ok... PMS... Almost obvious... I see no reason it would not work. I set up a VPN gateway through wifi tethering without great trouble. And VPN bring limitation to network traffic that you should not have. My first question would be: what is the use for the TP link router ? You pi is idealy placed as...

I'm not sure of how GPIO are handled during halt state. I supposed they are IO state are cleared so light should turn off I think. If it's not the case: If you already added a script to handled the on.off button, add a line to set the light GPIO to low. If you didn't, you could create a script the l...

Ok, I did not knew what a lag switch was, google help me for this, you should have said that right away. I got it now. As far I understood how linux journalised file system are supposed to work, you should always be able to recover from file corruption.

But I consider seting up read only file system worth the pain to recover your system 2/3 a year as I was doing before...

You mean

?

Sorry, but what is PMS ? (not an expert, but if the above is correct, I can help you, I did the same)

First question: is it possible to connect the PI to the Internet through BT tethering ? -> I did it through wifi so why not, try google :/

Second question: why do you mean by "broadcasting wifi" ? Creating a wifi access point ?

Hi, You may need to give a bit more info. You connect your phone through your wifi ? I supose it's on your internet router's wifi. You can setup your router to provide a static IP to your phone and use a script on your PI to see if your phone is connected or not. You can go multiple way for this - M...

Hi, Could you explain a little bit more ? What are you talking about ? Firewall ? If you want your pi to accept all input from network, this is the default, but why ? Is your router firewall enabled or is your pi on the DMZ ? Why do you want you pi unable to output traffic ? My question aside, what ...

Hi, Seems like file corruption to me. Your system was running from SD or DD ? If from SD your problem is here. I just stopped running PIs on SD "as is". I tried running it on HDD but had trouble with some pour quality USB to SATA bridges. A main issue I spotted is that, depending on the DD and bridg...

Re: Turn on lights when raspberry pi is powered on

Hi, If you don't want to mess up with high voltage circuit, I recommend you buy some modules with integrated relay. You have some cheap one on the internet (try googling relai module). So you can safely drive 12V LED strips or even 220/240V light sources (with care of course). I bough several of the...

I'm using VPN to do so. What do you mean by when VPN brake down ?

I never had any such issue, or it was a complete system crash (no other solution than unplug the pi).

I setup VPN. It's the most reliable solution for me. Did you had trouble with it ?

I had this issue when I made error in /etc/fstab

Check the file for correct UUID/PARTUID if you use some which seems the case (PARTUUID=79bb).
You are using only a SD card ? No other attached drives ?

It's trange that occured without any system change :/.

Re: Access Raspberry Pi outside of local network, without port forwarding or third party software

It may be too much for what you want but I give it anyway. If you don't want to open a remote display port on your public interface, which I understand, you may setup a VPN on your PI. You then will need to open a port anyway, 1194 by default for OpenVPN. This will give you a secure remote access to...

Open a terminal, using either keyboard shortcuts on GUI, or switch to one tty with ctrl+alt+Fkeys.

run command lsusb before connecting your mouse.
Plug it in
And rerun the command, to see if the mouse is seen by the OS.

To begin =)

Re: Raspberry Pi Zero W (OctoPi OctoPrint)

Hi,

So you are trying to connect your pi using WIFI/WPA2

Could you post your /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file ? (not sure of typo, but close to it).
Change SSID and pass key. It may be a auth failing.

I'm not an expert (yet ^^).
