Re: Samba Performance

Try connecting the HDD directly to the rpi and not through the hub.

I'm having the same issue. I've created a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/raspbian/+bug/1285276

SMBC doesn't work on raspbian

The samba utility smbc (sudo apt-get install smbc) doesn't work on raspbian (Linux raspberry-pi 3.10.30+ #640 PREEMPT Fri Feb 14 19:09:14 GMT 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux).

It seems I'm not the only one: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 2&p=403318

Where should this be reported?

USB HDD disk layout

I run RPi as a headless server of an USB HDD and want to know how I should do the disk layout. In other words: which part of the file system should be placed on different partitions? Can it be changed on a running system? I've had one server set up without special consideration to the disk partition...

Also change the smsc95 to no turbo mode when doing samba. It will increase speeds by 1-2mb/s and you will avoid some kernel errors/panics.
How can i do that?
Set "smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N" in /boot/cmdline.txt.

Re: Samba Performance

Don't use NTFS! It'll never perform under Linux as well as ext3/ext4.

Re: Samba Performance

I have a HDD mounted and run samba. Using dd to test write speed I get write speed of 5 MB/s and read of 19 MB/s between HDD and SD card. Using windows 8 to write to the samba share I only get 0.5 MB/s with a wait cpu of 99%. Can someone help me? Any ideas? Have you tried the different options ment...

Re: Samba Performance

Yes I do run it overclocked, but removing the overclock doesn't seem to improve network/drive speed. I'll try those configuration changes when I get a chance, but based on a quick Google, that would slow down the Ethernet connection rather than speed it up. Exactly. In my case the performance drop ...

Re: Samba Performance

Just ran a dd performance test.on another machine, the drives performance is drasticly better on Ubuntu than the pi's debian distro (2.0 MB/s compared to 23.8 MB/s). It seems its something on the pi's end. Initially I had trouble getting my USB HDD setup to work without crashes. The following helpe...

Re: Samba Performance

Have you tried adding the following to smb.conf:

socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65535 SO_SNDBUF=65535

You are not using NTFS but EXT4, right?

Re: XBMC + openWRT?

It seems that if the wifi adapter supports AP Mode then it should be possible to set the RPi up as an access point. Would it be possible to use the same wifi adapter to connect wireless to the existing network when it is in AP Mode? The examples I've seen requires a separate network adapter to conne...

XBMC + openWRT?

I got my wireless router in the basement and I have perfect signal in the living room but no so much in the other rooms. I'm planning to set up a RPi with XBMC in the living room. Would it be possible to set up this RPi as a range extender using openWRT (or something similar) when the XBMC is not us...

Re: Samba Performance

Just tried installing NFS on RPi and NFS Client for Windows. I'm getting write speeds at approx 5.4 MB/s and read speeds at approx 7.5 MB/s. Tried the same with a virtual Linux-server on the same Windows computer which gives write/read speeds at approx 6 MB/s / 6.7 MB/s. SMB on the same computers gi...

@wpns: have you read some of the earlier posts in this thread? There are described some ways to get a bit more performance. OC is one way but there are some configs you can use in the samba config file which can improve performance.

Re: OpenELEC Testbuilds

Some sound related issues related to r11904: 1. Sound through jack to composite tv is rather low. Any reason for this? I've tried several options in the xbmc menu but none seem to have any effect. Sound is still present when selecting HDMI event though HDMI isn't used. 2. Mute/unmute doesn't work in...
