"Doesn't work" is not a fault report. Please be more descriptive with the problem you are having.

Yes the 245 is there do to level shifting, but to be honest that original design was very inefficient and I found a better way of doing it after a bit of help from Gordondrogon. Just use a MCP23017 as can do the level shifting for you: http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/DeviceDoc/21952b.pdf Becau...

Re: Pi2 OTA TV tuner in USA

I don't think it's the CPU that's the problem, more likely that the USB bus can't cope with that amount of data, remember it's shared with a few other devices like the ethernet port.

Re: Solenoid to push a button...help!

Solenoid sounds like absolute overkill tbh. Personally I'd either use a relay hardwired into the button or just pop the toy open and swap out whatever capacitor drives the timing circuit so something else.

Re: reading 2x MCP23017: how long for reading 32 bits?

You used to be able to do it by loading the module via the gpio command, but in the brave new dev-tree world this doesn't work anymore. You'll need to look-up the dev-tree approved methods I found this on another thread: modprobe -r i2c_bcm2708 modprobe i2c_bcm2708 baudrate=1200000 I have no real w...

Re: Idea: use AP mode on RPi3 for easy setup

That's actually not a bad idea, although you probably would want to randomise the AP name slightly with the last 4 bytes of the MAC so you could setup more than one at once.

Re: Creating a NES controller driver

There already exists one in WiringPi:
https://git.drogon.net/?p=wiringPi;a=bl ... 20;hb=HEAD

You should be able to run the NES controllers at 3.3v so no chips needed, just a bit of wiring and software.

Re: Raspberry Pi SNESBot

I've picked up working on this again after a 2 year hiatus and made a few changes to the hardware to make it a bit nicer/more robust. The main change was to switch to using an mcp23017 port expander, which was a great idea for the following reasons: 1. I'm not using up so much of the Pi's GPIO, just...

Re: [HOWTO] Decoding pager transmissions with a Pi and rtl-s

One thing you can do is plug the dongle into a PC and run an SDR program on there. Capture a wav file of what you are receiving and post it somewhere, so we can check whether it's a signal strength issue or mistuned or whatever.

It appears that recently multimon-ng was updated to handle corrupted messages properly: https://github.com/EliasOenal/multimon-ng/commit/29cbda57c0ccc2a71ea47de5f026b7b6834546ca I don't have my Pi setup at the moment so I can't check whether this is a bug with multimon-ng or just that you aren't rec...

I found a bug in the kernel, who do I inform

Last year I was using my USB Eyetoy camera with motion quite happily and when I set it up again I found out it wasn't working. After trying out different kernels I've narrowed it down to this commit: https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commit/44dc4f093c9ec075e6704965665311a94f6371aa Any commits b...

I get weird errors like: Unsupported marker type 0xf5 Invalid JPEG file structure: SOS before SOF Bogus Huffman table def...

Re: [HOWTO] Decoding pager transmissions with a Pi and rtl-s

After speaking to the author of rtl_fm it appears there is a problem with the later versions that cause it to stop working with multimon-ng, which he is looking into. For now you'll have to roll back to the earlier commit I posted. As a little bonus, here's a simple way to listen to the output of rt...

You might want to enable some other POCSAG decoders, ie POCSAG512 and POCSAG2400.

Do you have an audio file of what is being received?

Re: [HOWTO] Decoding pager transmissions with a Pi and rtl-s

You are best using a waterfall program like gqrx or sdr# to find the exact POCSAG frequencies in use in your area.
Although I entered 153.350M on the command line, the output reads Tuned to 153602000 Hz.
I believe it offsets the tuner to avoid the large DC spike at the centre frequency

Setting monitor mode on a wireless device

I've ran into a problem trying to get my wireless dongle into monitor mode. Ok, so I patched multimon-ng to have very basic sqlite support, which means it'll generate a database containing address, function, message and a timestamp to pocsag.db. https://github.com/SonnyJim/multimon-ng Using the database you can throw various sql statements at the data, for example if you wa...
