Re: ******** the pi!

[quote="W. H. Heydt"][quote="stevech"]One should use Linux on a PC for quite a while before messing with the RPi. I have used my pi since oct '12 as my solar monitor, and apart from early USB issues, all solved - well done all, and its absolutely ROCK SOLID since Nov (apart from either me deliberate...

Looks cool, how modular is it and how does it compare to Raspicomm ? or Raspijuice

Would really like a look at the RS485 "slice" - this guy here has done some great work on Pi, maybe you should talk

Michael I have been monitoring my Aurora inverter for about 3 months no problems see my doc http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/5409724/pi-solar-aurora-short-form-pdf-375k?tr=77 I use curtronics aurora 1.8.3 and 123Solar with an FTDI RS485/USB and had lots of lockups until I upgraded the kernel. My most recent patch has been merged into the github repository - it should be available from rpi-update. This is cool. Re: RS485

You must make sure you got a 6 wire RJ12 lead, the 4 wire leads (normal phone) dont have the outer pins connected. (pin 1 and pin 6) The auroroa inverter with the RJ12 expect pin 6 for RTN, pin 2 for +TR and pin 4 for -TR, (Appendix A of the Aurora manual) you might get away with pin 2 and 4 for sho...

Termination is essential if more than 1 RS485 device is on the RS485 "bus" (eg if you have more than 1 inverter to monitor), otherwise, not essential

Without seeing the FTDI board - do you have a part num, bit hard to tell but if there are A+, A-, Gnd, then its + to+, - to - , Gnd to Gnd, but better with pic or part, lots of people make adapters based on FTDI chip, including FTDI Personally, i used this FTDI - USB-RS485-WE-1800-BT - CABL, with +T...

hmm what kernel version are you using (output of uname -a) I have been running an FTDI RS485 adapter for a number of months on pi now and I only saw your error for the first time today. heres my boot/cmdline.txt, which is a bit simpler than yours dwc_otg.microframe_schedule=1 dwc_otg.speed=1 dwc_otg...

Re: Stabilising Pi with smaller power supply

My solar panel pi monitor is pretty stable with 1 - usb set to 1.1 speed dwc_otg.speed=1 although latest firmware upgrades claim to fix many USB-Serial (RS485/232) probs 2 - edimax wifi adapter Unless your power supply is quite crappy, and your voltages indicate no, then its unlikely to be a power i...

Ordered my pi on 3rd dec with Paypal - 101021XXXX, money debited on 3rd december, but no sign of my order, apart from the confirmation. hope its just the christmas rush

Should I start worrying, maybe element14 (ordered first pi from them) was a better option :x
