Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I don't write code in python, but this application seems very similar to ruby's Sinatra, so it's pretty damn easy to add authentication (plaintext or sha1-ed). However, I use iptables and OpenVPN. The interface is accessible via OpenVPN only, works fine. Well, in theory, it would trivial to add pas...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I noticed a few posts back someone asked about password protecting the web interface but has yet to get a response. Anyone able to do this yet? Everything else about Screenly OSE is exactly what I need but that's a huge security gap, it's really open to anyone on the network. At first I figured the...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Thanks! Now I got another question, when its loading a video, I get a black screen like 2 secs before it starts. I read some eariler post but it seems you edited viewer.py since then. Any other solution? Some delay is to be expected, since the Pi isn't that powerful. The delay usually depends on th...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Will Screenly OSE crossfade between different pages e.g. would I be able to fade the screen between a web page and a HD video? Whether it will crossfade I don't know; currently, as far as I know, no version of screenly does crossfade. My fading variant does not crossfade between web pages or betwee...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

@Joe: the patch does not add a new option in the menu. All it does (in my memory, it is a while ago that I looked at it, and I don't use it myself) is allow you to fill the URL field with a local file name (that starts with a / ), i.e. something like: /path/to/local/file/with/image.jpg Sorry for the...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

The other thing screenly really needs is the ability to control the screen or projector via usb-serial and a special schedule type for start of day/end of day to turn the device on and off. Does anyone know of some code that can do this? Answered my own question in part. this sourceforge project ht...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I have Screenly on RasPi deployed in several stores, the content for each managed independently by the store manager. Unfortunately on a couple of occasions, the content has been disturbed, such that the order and content of the display didn’t retain the message intended. Is there any way that I ca...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

One more thing about my player-browser-fader branch: in viewer.py: - logging is set-up to be rather verbose (log level DEBUG); - the logging messages have a timestamp that contains milliseconds (to be able to judge timing); - logging is not sent to /tmp/screenly_viewer.log, but to the default (stand...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

In a nutshell, it should be possible to point git (in the screenly directory on your raspberry) to an additional remote repository, and then tell it to fetch content from there, and then tell it to change the git-controlled files in the screenly directory to those from another branch. I have found ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

My first setup is up and running above our production line, alternating between showing the local weather radar, one of our security cameras, and a jpg image of the current product's packing instructions. Only problem is that it takes a long time for certain pages (the weather radar) to load. I'd r...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I have successfully displayed via HDMi scheduled images and websites but so far Ive been unable to get a video to play. The screen goes blank when the video should be playing but then correctly shows the next image or website in the schedule. Any ideas please? Ive tried using a few different video ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

@Darron.Michael Thanks for mentioning the solution that you found. It seems a better approach than what we used. I have one ppt in the playlist on our screen; we converted it to a video. Initially we had used a ppt command "save as movie" (or whatever the exact command name is), on a windows machine...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I want to manage the picture library on the local system itself that also runs Screenly. I installed apache2 and it seems to work fine running on the default port 80, as Screenly is on 8080. Could I also just run it on the same daemon that Screenly uses instead, or, what is the best recommendation ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Keen to see more development in a nice subtle fade transition if possible. . I second this! Would love to see something like Axel-B's fader included in the master branch. And how about some pre-fetching for the next image in the playlist? Would that be easy/possible? I have a ~40MBits/sec wired bro...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

@charly130.mk2:

I hope it is safe enough for our use.
I did not jail the installation. I guess I could run the server under a new user(id) that can only write the database file and logging files, but has no other privileges, if that is what you mean.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

@cyanarnofsky: Is you version of Screenly up-to-date? The commit history can be seen here on github . (at october 13, vpetersson merged some of my changes, which affected the main viewing loop and recomputation of the playlist.) If shuffle is enabled, Screenly will after each 5 cycles recompute (res...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

That said, I'd avoid having Screenly's web interface exposed publicly. Instead, use an SSH tunnel or something to remote access Screenly. Because I want to (be able to) administer a single Screenly instance with a group of colleagues, and make this as easy as possible for them, the SSH tunnel appro...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Now that this is up, is it possible to easily change the port it's running on? I'm still new to linux so I'm learning as I go, I was able to set my IP and other items ok and I remmebered to change my resolution too. I can work around the port here, but we use 8080 already at remote locations so I'd...

I tried to enable what I think that you want [snip] I'll clean up the change and push the it to a new branch in my screenly fork at github.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Is there any hope of being able to serve photos that are stored locally on the device? I don't know whether there is any particular (technical or non-technical) reason why this is not possible now. Out of curiosity, I tried to enable what I think that you want, which took me, I don't know, about th...

Re: howto change password

But the other hint really does not work. The lost password link does not send me anywhere. It just says that I have already registered. and the lost password link still says so. I tried e-mailing to the address from which I got the original activation email without result. It would be very nice if ...
