A: that *probably* implies you're using an older kernel since it is supposed to be ok to change thread priority without having root authority in recent linux kernels. i'm using "Linux raspberrypi 3.10.25+ #622 PREEMPT Fri Jan 3 18:41:00 GMT 2014 armv6l GNU/Linux" is that too old? regardless, should...

I'm having the same issue. It's not power-related; the dongle is plugged into a sufficiently-powered USB hub and I was able to use this dongle with the previous armel Debian Wheezy distro.
