Isn't that was Raspbian itself is ? I mean the ARMHF on ARMv6 is all that Raspbian does, on top of Debian.
Basically. There is no need to look elsewhere, is my point.

I run Wheezy on my desktop and Wheezy on my Pi.

So it is not possible at all with the default display manager? (There is no .xinitrc file in the home directory.)

That didn't work. root@raspberrypi:~# cat /etc/rc.local #!/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other # value on error. # # In order to enable or disable this script just change the execu...

Setting screen blanking on every boot

When I am watching a movie, I don't want to wait for 10 minutes until the borders go black, so I have set the time to 60 seconds with the following command (as root):

Code: Select all

xset s 60
What is the easiest way to automatically run this command on every boot?

Re: You must try Bodhi!

I am getting so sick and tired of spam like this. This is a Raspbian forum, so take it somewhere else. While I find Arch fanboys slightly annoying with their "I use arch" comments everywhere, the systematic Bodhi spam is even worse. In fact I am less annoyed by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Re: How do I get a static IP

To view your current route/gateway, you can use netstat –nr Now you can edit the file using nano /etc/network/interfaces Look for the line called “iface eth0 inet dhcp” to “iface eth0 static” and add the info from netstat to keep the current IP, and the result could be like this, assuming your rout...

Today's upgrade - reboot required?

After typing apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade, I got this:

Code: Select all

The following packages will be upgraded:
  libraspberrypi-bin libraspberrypi-dev libraspberrypi-doc libraspberrypi0
  raspberrypi-bootloader
Are these firmware packages, and do they require a reboot?

Re: Rasberry Pi as standalone torrent client

I have no experiences with rtorrent but I use Transmission which is supposed to be the lightest of them all. It ships as default torrent client with Lubuntu (LXDE based Ubuntu) and it usually takes around 30MB of RAM while running. Rtorrent and screen is the lightest system I can think of. Perfect ...

Testing is always like that. It will calm down once stable is released. Just the occasional security fix then.

I am one of those who believe that it is always good to have the latest versions of any program, but I know that some folks think differently, and prefer to work on the "if it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it" principle! ;) I realize it is not easy to grasp the Debian release cycle, but it rel...

I am trying to add the parameters, but the movie does not launch. I must be doing something wrong. I had the same problem when building XBMC from source. Went back to pure Raspbian for several reasons, and the same problem is there as well, at least for a few minutes until powersaving (?) kicks in and the desktop - but not movie - vanishes into black again.

Aptitude is much better at dependency handling. If you install something and want to remove it afterwards, aptitude will remove the dependencies as well. To install as few extra packages as possible, use --without-recommends. Example: aptitude install --without-recommends blahblahpackage To purge a ...
