Re: View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

Yea exactly. That seems to be the trade off for the user interface they provide. I feel like I am pretty close to communicating via mqtt between my pi and the linode Linux server and may ride out the confusion and get acquainted. Linode advertises data privacy when compared to aws. Once I establish ...

Re: View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

I ended up using a simple test with paho. One published a message to another that acts if the message is hello world. I did this when communicating with mosquitos server and it worked ok, a bit slow but it was communicating. Now, I opened up my firewall on my server to communicate between the pi and...

Re: View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

I am grateful for your answers, you've clarified this greatly for me. Yes I will dig in further on securing the mqtt communication. So far, my pi and server can communicate using certificates over ssh and I set up a firewall that only allows communication on the ssh port, so I will need to take furt...

Actually, I may use Google IoT core instead of linode since it may be easier.

Re: View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

awesome thank you. So would my linode server be the broker? I would identify it by its IP address as the broker when using mqtt? Then the web server and raspberry pi are clients that publish and subscribe to topics(temp sensor, motion sensor, etc..)? I guess my main question is I have a server and i...

Re: View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

Great, I set up a virtual machine on linode. I transferred my flask webserver to it and installed all the dependencies I needed. Now I need the raspberry pi to send data to the linode server and input it on the web server. And if a button is pressed on the web server I would need a message sent to t...

View Webserver on Pi on Internet using cloud

Hello All, I have encountered a lot of ambiguity around this topic and would love some clarification. My objective: Access a flask web server on my raspberry pi (the website reads dynamic sensor data and controls pumps) over the internet without using third party services like dataplicity or portfor...

Reading Live Sensor Data Flask & Raspberry Pi

Hi All, I want to read live sensor data and plot it from my raspberry pi. I am using flask. Currently I have socket.io set up to try and read the live sensor data on my website and display it, but I am having trouble with it and I get the feeling maybe this is more complicated than it needs to be. D...

wordpress or html

Hi all, I am new to building web servers and writing html/css/javascript. I have a flask web server I built with python on my raspberry pi. I use it to control pumps and read sensor values. However, I find it difficult to make progress writing html and css. Is setting up a wordpress/apache server on...

Re: Connect REST API on Pi to the Cloud

Yea true, I wont be dealing with sensitive information or anything like that. My main worry is someone being able to hack into my whole network through something like dataplicty.

Re: Connect REST API on Pi to the Cloud

great thank you for all your suggestions. dataplicity seems like a good route. When you say "tunnel" to my local webserver. Does that involve poking any holes or giving dataplicity access to manipulate my homes local firewall?

Re: Connect REST API on Pi to the Cloud

great thank you. i am aware that I can access the pi from outside my home network via portforwading and dns. However, I would rather go a different route and connect to a cloud platform to be able to access the pi. what are your thoughts?

Re: Connect REST API on Pi to the Cloud

I need help with outside access to the RPi. I assume I might also need to create an app that uses the API, i dont know what the difference between an app and a webserver are. I have the API written with flask and can access and control my pi from my local network. I basically want to use the same AP...
