LOL! For anybody as dumb as me, I found out what was wrong. I downloaded a custom .xinitrc to modify my dwm status bar. However there was a line in there setxkbmap -layout gb -option ctrl:nocaps lol! It specified -layout gb in there, which is why startx changed the keyboard layout. Make sure you don...

For anybody as dumb as me, I found out what was wrong. I downloaded a custom .xinitrc to modify my dwm status bar. However there was a line in there

I tried setting it in the GUI but it seems to be reverting. I tried in Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse and also in Preferences > Raspberry Pi Configuration. For my money (in £ if you wish), the easiest and most reliable way is editing /etc/default/keyboard (not "defaults" as previously mentioned)....

The keyboard setting in Stretch seems to work the same as in Jessie. - When using GUI desktop you must use the GUI keyboard setting in [Menu] --> [Preferences] --> [Raspberry Pi Configuration] Reboot not required. - If you use the keyboard setting in sudo raspi-config from lxterminal in Desktop, th...
