Re: Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

Build has succeeded. Mame 0.214 is now working on RPI 4. Thanks for all the help that you have given me in making this possible. I plan on creating an instruction thread so that others may build Mame 0.214 with optimizations as well.

Re: Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

The build has been going on for several hours and I now have many executable programs showing up. It looks like it is actually going to succeed this time. I am also building out the mame tools as well which probably explains why it is taking so long.

The build has been started. I set DEBUG to 0 as well. That usually gives an extra boost in performance.

Re: Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

The build still failed, however, it did not take the system down with it this time. It actually neared the end of the build process as well. The following error occurred: Archiving libqtdbg_sdl.a... Compiling src/lib/netlist/analog/nld_bjt.cpp... In file included from ../../../../../src/lib/netlist/...

Re: Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

The build has begun. Without using -J4, RAM usage is so far staying under 1 GB. I do remember when using make -J4, RAM usage was close to 3 GB. Build speed is slower, but I will take that as long as it succeeds.

Re: Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

I have a 4 GB board. I will attempt without -J4 and see where that leads. I have not tried that yet. I have not enabled swap, but if I were too, I would prefer it to use one of the connected USB 3 hard drives rather than the SD card. The USB 3 hard drives more than double the speed of the SD card an...

Attempting to Build Mame 0.214 on RPI 4

I have been attempting to build Mame 0.214 on the RPI 4. I am able to get all the prerequisites for the build taken care of and the process starts without error. The build continues for an hour only to hard lock the system with the activity LED lit solid green. I am unable to move the mouse or perfo...

Re: Possible to add GLES EXT_buffer_storage driver support to Videocore VI on the Pi4?

It will happen when we are at 2.1 Mesa 19.2.0-rc3 at the least. The current version is still rc1.

Re: Pi 4 - full specification of VideoCore 6

Amazing! i mean, basically atm raspbian and any other software running on pi4 barely use the gpu, the amount of performance and feature will be added in next months will be massive, for what i understood! this coupled with the 64bit kernel make me happy i choose a pi4 with 4gb of ram, over a second...

Re: Pi 4 - full specification of VideoCore 6

Yes, it is quite an old one. It's hard to quantify the performance of the BCM2711 against PC's and dedicated graphics cards. It was designed to be low power (as in power efficient) and was not designed to be comparable to a modern gaming rig several times it's price. The best comparison I can give i...

Re: Pi 4 - full specification of VideoCore 6

It is definitely better than a Radeon 9800. That is what I have been able to determine so far. It can play Doom 3 at 720p resolution fairly competently and is likely to see a little improvement as the drivers continue to be worked on. If you want to visualize a comparison, think of it as equivalent ...

Re: PI 4 4gb 4k playback on chromium youtube

You can also get the Youtube add on for Libreelec and view 4k Youtube videos that way. I am sure H265 will be working in Raspbian in the near future. The GPU drivers are still being fleshed out at the moment and are still a work in progress.

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Buster

Kodi still works great with Raspberry Pi 4. I use the latest bleeding edge updates on kernel and all and do not have a single problem. I only use official add ons and do not mess with "free tv" crap. Many of the unofficial add ons are not safe and you risk adding malware to your machine with them. A...

Re: Sense Hat on RPi 4 ...

You could always place the Sense Hat in a separate connected to the Pi 4 via a ribbon cable. That will help keep the sense hat away from the board and it's heat while at the same time allowing you to pursue a cooling solution such as a fan shim.

The bottom of the flirc case is plastic. The top part of it is aluminum. Think of it as a big heatsink.

Re: Official Rpi4 case needs a fan

The fan shim is a solution, but if you are handy and use a small hole saw and drill bits you can easily modify it for a fan. Your fan can then be powered from the GPIO pins with ease.

Re: How to run Freespace 2 Open on Raspberry PI 3

There is a way to pull off running this game, open via terminal this way:

Code: Select all

./fs2_open_3.7.2 -window
No more focus loss at that point. Enjoy

Re: How to run Freespace 2 Open on Raspberry PI 3

I can tell you that setting SDL_VIDEO_MINIMIZE_ON_FOCUS_LOSS=0 does not work with loss of focus on the game. There is something up with Buster and not being able to maintain focus. Not sure what it is as of yet. Even setting this globally does not help.

Re: How to run Freespace 2 Open on Raspberry PI 3

One tip is to use the innoextract tool if you have the the setup file and no windows computer to run it on. Exagear is also an option if you desire to run the setup file directly on the RPI. Exagear is a paid software package however whereas, innoextract is free. If you should desire to try innoextr...

Re: How to run Freespace 2 Open on Raspberry PI 3

I can successfully get it started on an RPI 4, even all the way up to 1080p. The problem is that focus is lost and it randomly goes back to desktop though the game is still running. I can go back to the game, but it simply loses focus again in a few seconds. You can keep returning to the game, but i...
