Re: Can you install Windows 10 on Raspberry Pi?

But it will be slower than deep frozen molasses. :| as in needing half an hour just to boot up. FYI: am currently working on a Windows 10 Lite for ARM since there's a reason why Windows uses so much more resources than Linux because it's somewhat bloated. I hope to be able to upload a lite version ...

Here I enabled RDP via Remote Settings as well as allowed blank passwords via local security policy and then replaced -device ramfb with -nographic - before remotely connecting to the Pi4 KVM guest via the network from my Intel PC.... PERFECT!!!!! :D :D :D https://i.postimg.cc/dV0X20n7/perfect.png

The latest Insider (and other recent Windows 10 releases after 1903) are now working with network access! :o NOTE: These newer releases of Windows do not currently work in Software Simulation Mode - but can be built up quite quickly in the latest versions of QEMU using KVM all the way (or part DISM)...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

I got 1709 to boot up at full CPU speed with 3GB of RAM on the Pi4 using Gentoo and driver1998's qemu fork: 1. Software simulation mode (fast Intel host) - cannot be ich9 usb controller - here using nec instead: qemu-system-aarch64.exe ^ -accel tcg, thread=multi ^ -M virt-2.12 ^ -smp 2 ^ -m 3G ^ -cpu...

I had some problems with ich9 USB controller in software simulation mode for 1709 and 1803 - complained about source files - so I used NEC instead. I might need to update this guide sometime after doing some more testing.

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

Oh I see... You need to test in qemu first before you consider moving to some next level hypervisor setup. I tried virt-manager before but didn't work for me in this context; ARM64/KVM is still quite bleeding edge, and the drivers are not yet in a mature nor complete state, hence is only a hacker's ...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

It is present, and I have a KVM instance of Debian running. Honestly aside from the steps to pull the ISO I don't think I followed any of your guide; I'm trying to get it installed through libvirt is the issue since I'm running headless and managing through WebVirtCloud. Additionally I am running o...

Re: Why moving to 64bit?

Damn it. snes9x-gtk is not even in the repos on Raspian. Not even the cli version. Pretty frustrating so i have to build it myself :x On a side note: Never use a Pi 4 with a really old and slow microSD (6.6 MiB/s sequencial!). It's a pain. It was the only one i had left so no choice. The A1 rated c...

Re: Can Raspberry Pi 4 play HEVC 1080p videos?

Hi guys! Can Raspberry Pi 4 smoothly play HEVC videos 1080p@24 without freezing? Currently through FFmpeg and Kodi with patches. LibreElec is the main build that has all the right elements. The hardware block can do 4k60 HEVC, and 10bit. Why? Even the RPi 1 B can play 1080 video in more efficient f...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

Windows 10 doesn't seem to be working for me, but that's perhaps because I am on 18.04 instead of 19.10 (I get a failure as soon as the ISO starts loading files). I'll try updating my QEMU and libvirt later and see what that does. Is /dev/kvm present? Did you follow the above guide? What's the erro...

Re: Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

Running Windows 10 on ARM with KVM acceleration enabled is quite tricky and requires a 64-bit OS with a KVM-enabled kernel (/dev/kvm must exist) - so not sure if the current Pi distros of Debian satisfy those requirements? Best bet is Ubuntu or Gentoo right now. I'll take you through some of the pre...

Problems with VLC/H.265 fullscreen playback on Pi4?

Have you guys experienced problems playing back 1080p or 4K video fullscreen on the Pi4 that's encoded in H.265? You either see black screen or scrambled picture till you make the window smaller?

Ubuntu 19.10 for the Raspberry Pi 4 with a KVM-enabled kernel & Windows 10 guest

I managed to build an Ubuntu 19.10 with KVM enabled thanks to satmandu's docker system: https://github.com/satmandu/docker-rpi4-imagebuilder/ However, the above is a thin deployment system that remains quite *hit and miss* since there's a lot of dependencies involved that must work in tandem for the...

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

I was thinking a similar thing - that the kernel should at least take us into the initial boot up regardless of what userland we apply it to - but I tested thoroughly ensuring all files are copied across properly; however, sakaki's kernel always results in a black screen after the rainbow screen for...

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

Raspex, Ubuntu 19.04 and 19.10 all have rainbow screen > black screen using sakaki's kernel regardless of VC4. Ubuntu 18.04 (including a less than perfect upgrade to 19.04) both work but have a black screen when installing a desktop GUI - most likely due to the mesa version. The failure to initializ...

Re: Docker Raspberry Pi 4B ARM64 Ubuntu Image Builder

I finally got it working - but there's no KVM enabled in the kernel! :x

There's only 3GB RAM enabled at the moment as per sakaki's method.

VC4 seems turned off but should work because of Ubuntu 19.10 having Mesa 19.1

Upon further investigation I think you might be right.

I checked Gentoo (badass distro!) and sure enough Mesa is already at 19.1!

Re: vc4-fkms-v3d (Pi4 Graphics)

I found out that the Mesa version on Ubuntu is 19.0.8 - so I'm guessing it falls short of 19.1? That's after updating it via this guide: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2019/04/mesa-19-0-2-available-install-ubuntu-18-04-ppa/ However, I'm not convinced that it's the mesa version that's causing th...
